Neighbours kids see into living room

MamaBear303 · 10/08/2025 15:36

Our neighbours have positioned their trampoline so that when kids jump up and down on it they can directly see into our living room.

it’s a nice day today and I had our French doors and curtains open for fresh air and the kids were having some lovely time on the trampoline staring right at me - may I add I was sat on my sofa in my underwear breastfeeding my 2 month old baby…

I don’t want to have to move my furniture around as we’ve finally found a layout that works and I also don’t want have to keep my curtains shut all the time. I believe I have a right to be comfortable in my own home without having to worry about what I’m wearing (especially since I’m behind on laundry and everything gets covered in sick)

is it silly to ask them to move it? I mean it’s on their property and I also don’t want to start any arguments but it’s not very nice to have teenagers who can see into our main living space…

Can you draw the curtains if you’re sitting round in your undies? Anyone walking past the house can see into my living room. It’s just one of those things that can’t be helped. I don’t think your neighbours are doing anything wrong.

NewWin · 10/08/2025 15:46

Either wear clothes in front of open french doors (that's what I do) or leave it, and if it offends anyone they'll move the trampoline on their own accord.

You can't ask them to move the trampoline I'm afraid

parakeet · 10/08/2025 15:47

Sorry but you need to get into habit of drawing curtains at night and only opening once you are dressed. Or have bamboo in pots

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 10/08/2025 15:47

I feel your pain. My neighbours built a huge deck so they all sit and gawp into my living room when they’re in their garden. I have to shut the curtains for privacy. I shouldn’t have to, and neither should you but unless you have a good relationship with them I doubt very much if they’d move the trampoline. I’d ask but expect nothing to change.

Eyelet voiles in the middle of your curtains. Windows don’t looked properly dressed without them.

VintageDiamondGirl · 10/08/2025 15:50

.

TinyTempest · 10/08/2025 15:55

Just stick an old pair of shorts on.

TheNightingalesStarling · 10/08/2025 16:04

Trellis on the fence

Campingisnexttogodliness · 10/08/2025 16:05

BB gun.
Or position a sail at an angle in your garden.

AlphabetBird · 10/08/2025 16:07

Put some nets up

ThejoyofNC · 10/08/2025 16:08

You're choosing to sit there. You're choosing not to have blinds up. You're choosing not to wear clothes.

They're choosing to bounce on the trampoline.

Either get over it or change something yourself. They've done nothing wrong.

ns87 · 10/08/2025 16:22

I'm so surprised at the vote, I think this is totally violating your privacy.

bluecurtains14 · 10/08/2025 16:26

Just put some clothes on?

What privacy? She's got her French doors wide open. She's responsible for her own privacy.

cabbageking · 10/08/2025 16:46

If you are not happy with the privacy of your home then the onus is on you to adjust whatever you wish. Not for others to adjust

BlueyNeedsToFuckOff · 10/08/2025 16:51

It’s annoying but I’d just carry on with doing what you’re doing. You’re in your own home and if the neighbours don’t like what the kids can see then they can move the trampoline.

Or start watching really inappropriate TV

Yeah, put some porn on. Sound down though so other neighbours can’t complain about the sounds!

Glitchymn1 · 10/08/2025 16:53

I feel for you, but it probably wasn’t done with the intention of the kids getting a view into your home. Vertical blinds? Those window stickers that reflect back? Some screening?

Peggydragon · 10/08/2025 16:56

Bamboo in big pots along the fence if you can run to that?

ObtuseMoose · 10/08/2025 16:57

What a stupid suggestion.

How much do you realistically think they can see when they're bouncing up and down?

GenerousGardener · 10/08/2025 16:58

We had exactly this. We put up a six foot fence then put a trellis on top that had fake ivy interwoven in it. It did the job.

BallerinaRadio · 10/08/2025 17:01

You can't 'stare' at someone bouncing up and down on a trampoline. I think they'd just laugh at you if you asked them to move it

chunkybear · 10/08/2025 17:24

You can ask them, nicely!

MamaBear303 · 11/08/2025 18:18

Thank you all for your input!

I feel I should add that our living room is at the back of the the house so there’s no street traffic also having the door open let’s our dog get in and out as often as she wants

but thank you to those that have nicely put the situation into perspective- I’m not going to say or do anything - they have also only just moved it into this spot recently so perhaps they didn’t realise

Can you put something up in the garden between your windows and your fence (like the sail suggestion) to block the view? Or add something to extend the height of your fence.

I'd look at feeding the baby somewhere else if they are actively trying to look in and watch you (which isn't easy on a trampoline to be fair). It is about making choices and you could simply choose to walk away to another room.
