Would you choose this flooring?

Hi, I’m the middle of purchasing a new build, and it’s come down to flooring choosing time. The only option is Karndean, carpet, or vinyl. (The Karndean selection offered is very sparse and limited to a few from the knight tile range) I would like our house to look warm and homely, so have chosen the Traditional Character Oak but I’m worried it isn’t light / modern enough and I might regret it? As the show home ect use more grey / brown tones?

I’ve use the Karndean visualiser (not sure how accurate it is Hmm?) to add the flooring to pictures of our house, what do you think? (Carpets in the sitting room, snug and upstairs will all be white carpet apart from bathrooms :-))

Thank you for any advice!

I like it.
Wood effect is always a safe bet as it is pretty much always going to be available and liked. I think the colour is fine. The feature we fell in love with when we bought our home last year was parquet effect LVT in similar shade to yours in the entrance hall.
Grey floors would personally put me right off - they’d be going straight on the list of things to be changed as a priority lol 😂

They look like neutral classic wooden floors. They won’t look dated ever. Grey toned wooden floors on the other has been dated for years now. These are a much safer bet.

Yes, in fact in all my houses since 2003 I've had some variation of oak flooring ranging from original exposed floorboards to engineered oak flooring and I've been able to adapt it to varying decorating trends, it's so versatile and just doesn't really age like other styles. The greys will date very quickly.

I like it.

We have amtico and im impressed with it.

GaspingGekko · 10/08/2025 06:44

It's inoffensive neutral wood flooring, so fine I think. But to be honest it feels like a bit much with the kitchen worktops in a very similar shade and style. I'd look for something else in the kitchen.

myplace · 10/08/2025 06:49

I like it. It is neutral and works well with everything.

It’s fine in the kitchen pics too- it will be a bit broken up in practice- items on the work surface, plants, chairs etc.

MiseryIn · 10/08/2025 06:50

I have similar and it’s fine. Once you have rugs etc down it’ll be a lot less intense.
Have you already got the kitchen worktops? Not sure that’s the best match with the floor.

Thehop · 10/08/2025 06:50

It's lovely. Goes perfect with the worktops. Grey is really naff now. Can't go wrong with wood.

Newstove · 10/08/2025 06:52

White carpets sounds very very stressful, for you and especially for any visitors. A boyfriends mum had all white decor downstairs and I lived in fear of marking it.

I think grey flooring is dull and dated. Vinyl is fantastic in a kitchen - what options have you got?

olympicsrock · 10/08/2025 06:53

Looks good!

GRex · 10/08/2025 06:55

I think we got Kahrs, which is similar, so obviously I approve! We went for the very wide panel though and it really adds space. I also like the parquet range, but that has a higher risk of dating. Maybe just in the kitchen for variety?

MissyB1 · 10/08/2025 06:56

I like it, very similar to ours - but white carpets did you say? 😱😱

SilenceNotGolden · 10/08/2025 06:58

We put something similar in our office at home and it looks great. Does it match your internal doors?

BoudiccaRuled · 10/08/2025 06:59

The flooring looks lovely but the white carpets sound like a disaster waiting to happen. Or, you will want to change them in a few years as they will stain or look grubby, whereas a less "white" colour would be fine for decades.
Also, beware of keeping the wooden work surfaces dry or they go black with mould/damp and look awful. If possible I'd ask for corian (sp?) instead.

WorldMap24 · 10/08/2025 06:59

It's inoffensive and will be fine, but it's not what I would choose. Do they offer the wider karndean tiles? Are you planning on having any rugs, and if so what colours?

Eenameenadeeka · 10/08/2025 08:01

I think it looks lovely. Will go with lots of things and won't date like grey.

Createausername1970 · 10/08/2025 08:03

OMG - that's my kitchen, flooring and doors😂😂😂.

I think it's nice!

LastKnownSurvivor · 10/08/2025 08:11

Grey would date quickly. Your choice is fine. It's not a 'wow' choice but it won't date and it's neutral enough to blend in with anything.

youreactinglikeafunmum · 10/08/2025 09:24

I would even go for a darker wood as i'm not a fan of the newbuild grey

This looks good x
