Does time feel like it goes faster when you’re not working?

I am a habitual clock watcher and time goes so slow during the workday but as soon as I get home it goes fast. Weekends seem to disappear and before I know it I’m back at work and time stands still again.
Is it just me?
Does anyone find their workday goes quickly? If so what do you do?

Absolutely. I work term time only and the school holidays fly by.

Sunnysidegold · 09/08/2025 11:13

Teacher here. The terms drag on but the summer holidays whizz by.

Dutchhouse14 · 09/08/2025 11:15

Yes of course, it's a scientific fact😁

Roseblooms7 · 09/08/2025 11:16

No. Nurse here and I battle against the clock on a work day. Too many tasks and too few hours. Days off drag out beautifully.

Roothewheel · 09/08/2025 11:17

Are you very bored at work?

I work part time. Non work days fly. Work days…. Go by swiftly enough but not at same speed. Not boring work though.

When I was a student and I mind numbing data entry… every minute seemed like an hour

casualcrispenjoyer · 09/08/2025 11:21

I found the opposite when I taught, that there weren’t enough hours in the day and no time to clock watch

i do an easy remote job now and that also goes by quickly.

on the other hand- when I have both kids at home
for a full day (3.5 and 8 months), that drags and I clock watch like mad until my husband can join me. I didn’t find that was the case when I just had the one child for some reason. Things should be busier now so it should fly by- but instead I have less time to tick off tasks, everything takes twice as long and feels it and I have constant distractions.

I can get bored especially when there’s not much to do, my work is based on time slots so I always have to be very aware of the time which is like forced clock watching which is mental torture.

Bloody hell that sounds awful OP

It DOES go faster - objective fact!

PumpkinPie2016 · 09/08/2025 15:41

My work days generally go fairly quickly- I am a teacher and constantly busy/on the go.

My school only has a 30 minute lunch, which, when you take account of the time the bell goes, is more like 27 minutes. Otherwise, I am mostly in class, some meetings or have a tonne of work and not enough time 🤯

That said, the Sept - Christmas term overall seems to go on forever.

Weekends do absolutely fly by 😔 I never feel like I have properly rested/caught up before Monday.

Longer holidays seem to be a bit better/slower, mainly because it's the only time I get to actually breathe!

suburburban · 09/08/2025 15:44

Same for me

whatisforteamum · 09/08/2025 20:11

No my work day goes ridiculously fast.
Just had a couple of sick and it really dragged.Ive had weekends I could cry I'm so bored.
I like the pressure of work.

CaptainMyCaptain · 09/08/2025 20:14

I used to be a teacher and the days flew by. Now I'm retired I find time is still passing really fast - too fast.

Edit - I agree with @PumpkinPie2016 that the September to December term went on for ever although each day passed quickly.

Try doing Caroline Girvan HIIT videos

Never will 30 sec last as long
