Jellycat pigeon

I'll preface this by saying that I think some of the jellycats are cute and I have got some.
I saw an ad on Facebook about this Jellycat pigeon and it was £50!!
Further investigation of other sites showed similar or more expensive prices.
WTF!
It's a soft toy pigeon.
Is it so outrageously expensive because it's linked to London?
I will not be chasing this particular pigeon.
AIBU to think this is capitalism gone mad?

All Jellycats are expensive … they just look like vaguely cute stuffed toys to me, I don’t really get it.
Like Beanie babies all over again

cheeseomelette · 08/08/2025 20:27

Oh it’s gone totally ridiculous in every way with jelly cat stuff. I was just thinking that we have some in the loft and I should probably flog them on Facebook and cash in while people are being so ridiculous over it all.

Manchester selfridges has all the fish and chips stuff. Cuddly Mushy peas with eyes for a stupid price. Insanity. 🤣

Some of the older ones sell for over £1k

REDB99 · 08/08/2025 20:31

They used to be reasonably priced then goodness knows what happened but they’ve increased stupidly, think social media had something to do with it. I won’t pay those prices but do admit to buying the Christmas cat in the January sales (40% off in a local gift shop so paid a lot less than the pre-sale price which was £45, I should have bought 2!)

Zoopet · 08/08/2025 20:35

I know that some of the older releases command high prices but this is a 2025 item.
Think I'll stick with cute cheapos!

Jellycat have behaved appallingly and I won’t be buying anymore.

Letmehaveabloodyusernameplease · 08/08/2025 20:40

Cute toys, massively overpriced.

Zoopet · 08/08/2025 20:42

FaintlyMacabre · 08/08/2025 20:35

I do find them appealing despite my advanced years but this article put me off the brand completely!

Think I'll start collecting something else that independent shops can stock.
The above article probably explains why my local garden centre is no longer stocking Jellycat.

Never heard of them.

Ashley911 · 08/08/2025 20:49

I might buy one as a gift to someone who loves teddies but yes that's very high pricing

LittlleMy · 08/08/2025 21:03

Well if anyone has an unwanted ‘fuzzy peach’ apparently its value is riding high right now as it’s currently sold out everywhere. Not an expert but fall down rabbit holes extremely easily if anyone ever posts a link to almost anything! 😅

cheeseomelette · 08/08/2025 21:18

Jesus. The crab in a crew neck I’ve just got out of the loft is going for £50 on eBay…!

Doristheclitoris · 08/08/2025 22:09

Is it because it’s exclusive to Selfridges instore, there will always be an online market for those who cannot get to the store.

Squiffy01 · 08/08/2025 22:16

jellycats have been my favourite soft toys for children for around 15 years before they got super popular.
ridiculous how expensive they are now.

Hoppinggreen · 08/08/2025 22:17

DD loves pigeons, she volunteers with a Rescue charity and I would love to get her one but no joy sadly

Crazynotlazy · 09/08/2025 14:36

I bought the pigeon. I love pigeons and couldn’t resist him. Had to buy him off vinted though.

Leoparddrawer · 01/09/2025 20:29

I’m assuming the ones on eBay for around £20 are fakes?

Chickenbone123 · 01/09/2025 20:37

It’s beyond annoying. Our 3 year old has a jellycat which is his comforter. We have 2 on rotation and a virgin one which sits on the shelf as comparison to how it looked pre battered and chewed 😂

I have a newborn and want to buy her one. But I know I need to get 3 and cannot even find one decent one in stock! Nightmare! And really disappointing. They are really great soft toys, robust, just the right size and weight and easily washable.

They must be? They are £35 in the store so anyone selling them at £20 would be making a loss.
