I love browsing antique shops, interior design, old Hollywood movies and music. I usually love reading too, but I’ve struggled to pick up a book in recent months.

Hmmm, love this question. I try to romanticise my life as much as I can:

• Books
• Audible
• Lego
• Avocados
• Sourcing different soaps
• Charity shops
• A decent series (Yellowstone/Landman)
• The odd true crime documentary
• At home murder mysteries - I think they’re called Cryptic Killers
• Matcha
• I quite like my dog and young children and husband

I love LEGO too. I can’t believe I missed that from my list!

Reading, and also reading about reading.

Writing - creative and non-fiction.

Media.

Politics and current affairs.

History.

Arts and culture in general.

Football.

Wildlife and natural history.

Travel.

Crime.

Anything unexplained or supernatural.

Psychology and human behaviour.

Onionringsarenotforme · 08/08/2025 12:18

Outdoorsy, active stuff like cycling, mountain biking, hiking, horse riding, swimming, beaches

Health & wellbeing. Lifting weights. Healthy cooking

Gardening and home interiors

People & their feelings

Cats !

Clothes and style, although not so much mainstream fashion

What does not interest me - drinking, getting drunk, talking about drinking or getting drunk. People who do nothing apart from drinking. I know quite a lot of these people (through circumstances rather than choice!) .
Also mainstream tv like live island etc and people who talk about it

Yep - so dull!

Myoldbear · 08/08/2025 12:40

The Inspector Serrailler novels by Susan Hill; real page turners.

The Isle of Wight: what's happening, news, holidays there.

Bell ringing is fairly interesting.

Reading classic science fiction, rewatching my favourite movies (generally scifi), visiting art galleries (especially modern art and abstract art), museums (I love history), whales and the history of whaling, bees, space and astronomy, space photography, hiking, travel, tropical beaches, mountains, wooden furniture… I think I’m going a bit off piste with this list?!

We discovered we have a blackcurrant bush/tree in our garden recently. I know very little: would you be interested in telling me some interesting things about them?

For myself

  • Genealogy (strongly relates to my job)
  • Food
  • Nature (love IDing plants, and animals. The Merlin bird ID app is my fave)
  • Languages & etymology
  • History & Local history
  • People/psychology

Blackcurrant bushes smell amazing
The fruit ripe, picked still with the heat of the sun is divine and they make the best fruit pies
they are quite hardy, low maintenance but if it’s been dry like this summer I would water them along with everything else

we got some cuttings from bushes near where ribena was created and first produced so we claim descendants from the mother bush! Who knows might be true

they are all round an easy amazing crop and the difference from what you can buy v what you can pick is huge
(plus they remind me of my childhood my mum’s blackcurrant pie could’ve won awards but they didn’t last that long)

mondaytosunday · 08/08/2025 14:22

I love watching YouTubers about my hobby (crochet). Makes me feel part of the crafting community! I do it mainly when crocheting.
Reading, interior design, my kids. Textiles are a passion and I think if I knew then what I know now I’d have done textile design (I did graphic design and worked for a publishing company). I once bought a house just so I could use one particular wallpaper (only a slight exaggeration)! Designers Guild is my happy place. I could live in that courtyard on Kings Rd.

Fizzysister · 09/08/2025 10:08

@frozendaisy how do I know when they're ripe? I tasted one a few weeks ago and it was pretty sour but it looked ripe.

What else can you do with them apart from pies?

I looked into their Wikipedia page and their history as a WW2 nutrient booster was pretty interesting. I imagine Ribena comes from that time in one way or another!
