To think there’s a difference between quiet and timid?

I know two girls - both are ‘quiet’ but one has plenty of inner confidence the other does not. The one who doesn’t is very timid and is prone to being manipulated or taken advantage of. The quiet one with plenty of inner confidence can navigate situations much easier and is more likely to avoid getting in a mess.

The one who is quiet but not ‘timid’ also seems more mature emotionally

Yes there can absolutely be a difference, the clue is that the words mean different things! Someone could be quiet without being timid, but I suppose a timid person would most likely be quiet.

Of course there is a difference. I am what you would probably call quiet - but I am definitely not timid, I will speak up if and when I need to.

Yes of course. Not sure why the need to post? Are you unsure of there is a difference?

Thanks everyone for your responses on this - thing is there are people that are prone to making the mistake of thinking that quiet is somehow synonymous with “not confident”

Who is making the assumption that both are timid? I’d expect more from e.g. teachers, not so much from Great Aunt Lucy who sees her Great Nieces twice a year and assumes both are quiet because they lack confidence. Inner confidence isn’t necessarily visible to people who aren’t close or aren’t paying much attention,

It’s much the same as people who seem to equate being introverted with being quiet, shy, or socially anxious - which often seems to include people who describe themselves as introverts!
