My hair has always had a wave to it but lately it’s gone pretty curly. If I was it and scrunch it has a nice curl to the front but the back ends up a frizzy, matted mess. Can anyone recommend some good products to use to help the back be like the front. I’ve tried mousse but I can’t bare the crunchy ness.

also what brushes do you use? I tried a wide tooth comb but it still frizzed up and the tangles at the back still wouldn’t come out.

Also, I prefer it straight so would like to wear it straight sometimes - is that possible? Or is it one or the other?

You can definitely straighten it, just ensure you use the protective spray before using the straighteners.

Really simple to get and keep the curls in place all day: soak your hair, wrap in towel but don’t rub. Leave for a minute. Comb through conditioner, the thicker the better, do nothing else. Lee Stafford curly conditioner is great, as is Tresemme, but I find Tresemme flakes off so you look like you have crazy dandruff! Novex (got mine on Amazon, there’s a kg of it) is my daily ‘top up’. Sounds terrible, but the more build up of product, the better the curls will look.

I have a very bog standard wide toothed plastic brush, easy to clean of product.

Consult a curly hair specialist

Ooh see I hate product build up. My hair gets so greasy too. I’ve tried a wide toothed comb and it didn’t work - tangles stayed in and frizzed up embarrasingly!

You need products that are sulphate and silicone free.

I currently use Flora & Curl, Curlsmith, Innersense products and a Tropic clarifying shampoo once a week. I use a Denam d3 brush and a wide tooth comb and microfibre towel.

I use the curly girl method and there are loads of YouTube tutorials and online guides.

I would suggest getting a good curly cut by someone who is trained in curly cuts.

It can take a while to get the hang of it, but it does make a huge difference in your hair looks and texture.

Consider wearing your hair up at night. I sleep in a fancy silk turban and look like a fifties housewife doing it.

What works on other people's hair might not work on yours, so consider sample sizes of you aren't sure. I use Lush supermilk, and curl power and follow with Umberto (something??) curl jelly gel.

The gel dries crunchy, but then you "scrunch out the crunch" and it leaves you with soft ringlets / waves. YouTube is full of vids of young pretty things giving you curl advice, watch a few and the algorithm will take over. If you see someone with similar hair type, then what works for them might work for you.

It all sounds ridiculous and a lot of work, but I honestly spend 2 mins on my hair in the morning, I spray with mist and reshape a couple of curls. I wash hair every three days, and focus on scalp cleansing, then dry and style.
