To not buy new clothes yet?

I had a baby 6 weeks ago today. I wasn’t well during pregnancy and went from 4x a week at the gym and 15000 steps to bed bound. I was 9at8lb and now I’m 12 stone (5’8). I am starting the gym again in two weeks although I can only do 2x sessions a week as they changed class times and I will get my steps back up. I currently have 2x summer dresses that fit me, 2x jumper dresses for winter and my maternity leggings (which look grim now) and t shirts. That’s it. AIBU to not buy clothes as I’m hoping it won’t be long or should I bite the bullet as I need to lose 24lb to fit into my normal clothes?

Do you have any maternity clothes you can keep wearing to tide you over into winter? If it was me I'd probably buy a couple of staples (eg one dress, one skirt, one top) and try to eke it out. But don't try to rush the weight off a new baby is hard, just do what you can and I'm sure it will all start to go soon.

Congratulations on your baby! I would say it depends on how you feel to be honest, it would really impact my mood & how I felt if I wasn’t comfortable in the clothes I have to wear, never having anything to wear, so if I was you then I would be buying some clothes that fit now. They don’t have to be expensive, even charity shop/Vinted for a few more cheap options.

24lb is a lot to lose, it takes lots of women over a year to lose all of their baby weight & fit back into old clothes, that’s really normal.

Congratulations on the new arrival!
Without going mad with a whole wardrobe, I think a few well-chosen pieces would give your morale a well-deserved lift

Buy some clothes that look nice on you and your new shape. Honestly it will make you feel so much better. You can still work on losing weight but you can still enjoy clothes in the meantime too..and congratulations!

If you feel well enough, I found long pram walks were great for getting moving after baby. Great for you and them. Check your step counter works if that's what your tracking - my watch doesn't count steps when pram pushing...!

I think YANBU especially not to buy anything special if you dont intend it to fit, for long but also don't let it mean that laundry and weight loss becomes an extra stress. You need to make life easy for yourself.
I bought some cheap tshirts and cotton joggers and wore on repeat when I had a newborn, after a few months I hated them anyway so was glad when they stopped fitting. But I did need quite a lot of clothes as i kept getting baby sick all over me so id need to chNge and wash my clothes frequently. I kept using mat leggings and tops as well for a while.

Try supermarket ranges or vinted if you can afford and if you just need any little extra bits to get you through the early months?

I think just a few pieces of clothing that you are comfortable in is a good idea, give yourself time to recover and don't feel like you have to hurry to return to your pre baby body.

Don't be so hard on yourself, take it easy, once baby is crawling around, you won't be sitting down.
Buy yourself something nice to wear. Go for stretching fabric so you'll be able to wear it when you bounce back.
You will bounce back.
Congratulations 🎊

Don’t know if you are BF or not but the weight clings to me when I BF and I eat exactly the same as I do when not feeding a baby.

I am 5th 7 and 9.5 / 10 stone normally. I am currently 11 st 3 and baby is 5 months old.

when I stopped feeding my 3rd at 10 months I lost 11 pounds in one week! No diet change at all.

having a baby - the weight for the majority of women taken time to get back. As they say 9 months in one year to get if off.

I have 4 and I wish I had invested a bit of £ in a wardrobe somewhere between post pregnancy and when the weight came off as I felt frumpy, uncomfortable and crap for the year after a baby. Even though this if our last I bit the bullet and just bought the clothes so I would feel good (I am a solid size 12 /14 now and usually a 10) I’m not spending another year feeling rubbish.

so yes do it. And if you plan on any more children it will be a worthwhile investment
