To wonder what people trying to reduce UPFs eat in adult packed lunches and sandwiches?

I’m not going nuts as regards this and have always cooked from scratch but trying to reduce the amount of processed food we eat .Breakfast and dinner are easy but sandwiches and packed lunches I struggle with.

Can you get low processed bread( if so where) and what about fillings? Cheese sandwiches are dull, processed meat is a clear no and then tuna you can’t eat in abundance… What else do you be put in a packed lunch?

What do other people have?Is 1 or 2 processed items a day (eg a yog and granola bar) ok.

Check out the Eastern European shops if you have any near you. I've found several brands of their bread that have no preservatives. Not totally UPF free but better than having emulsifiers and E numbers etc. M and S also have some good bread apparently but I can't get there easily and their other stuff is unaffordable for a regular delivery. There are some good Facebook groups that provide tips on snacks and meals.

I make the bread

i make a green tomatoe chutney to spice up a cheese sandwich ( you can also add salad)

I make a hummus - loads of twists you can add to that
some peanut butter is not UPF and can be teamed with home made jam . can be frozen so make extra

many plain yogurt isn’t processed

yiu can make cereal bar replacements ( oats, dried fruit, nuts, seeds bind with butter and syrup )

I don’t make mayo but feel I should - that’s my limit I guess

Don’t take sandwiches.

Cook extra rice, potatoes, pasta, whatever, when you’re making dinner and use that as the basis for either salad or soup for lunch. Or just straightforward leftovers.

M&S does a 4 ingredient bread and bread rolls now and Jason’s is good too (for convenience). We also buy Naked ham - no nitrates. ETA - quite often part baked baguettes/ rolls are upf free. They just need 8 minutes in the oven.
