999 call

I am going to have to write this with as little information as possible so as not to identify myself. So I and a few neighbours have had problems with my neighbour for a while. Vandalising things, common assault. Recently, threats that he was watching us. Of course all caught on camera and reported to police to no avail. Now, I have been worried since this started, but not as much as after this most recent incident which is as follows.
At 1am the other morning I heard him fighting with a man in a car that pulled up. He started verbally fighting with the man in the car threatening his life eventually retrieving a weapon from his premises to attack him, at which point I called 999. The car drove off before he reached him. He went back in. I was on the phone to police telling them what's unfolding. Then this massive fight broke out in his house with his wife and kids all involved, I could hear scuffling and like people being hit. I relayed to the police. They arrived and restrained him in the street, arresting him. The police got our version of events and said they would need the footage from my camera. I got it all saved and ready in my phone. Noone contacted for this. What i am concerned about is whether the police are taking this seriously. After being threatened by him i now concerned he is capable of a lot more than I first thought. If they have only taken his version of events into account then it will all be lies, he will be released and he will definitely know we called police. It is really concerning me. I am even scared he has already been released. Yesterday, a police man was in the house for a long time! He went in with a brief case. Im not sure what this could possibly be. I do believe drugs are involved but its honestly the least of my worries. The violence and recklessness is scary now. I called 101 to see what I could find out. Im not interested in the ins and outs of their business. I just want to know that this is being taken seriously and they aren't swallowing all the bull sh it they feed them. I am worried for myself and family.

If this is not taken seriously, it honestly will be the last thing I report to police and I urge everyone to start just doing what they need to do to protect themselves. This country is falling apart.

Police were on the house yesterday.
Be patient

Ask your local councillor to find out for you if you concerned for yourself.

Still no contact for footage. I had to delete so much stuff from my phone to download it. It was hour and half long. If they dont contact by weekend is over im deleting it because my phone is running so slow. I also dont have a computer to save it to. Their loss really. If it was that urgent they would secure it immediately. I contacted 101 and they said they would contact the person in charge. Noone contacted me.

Don't delete it move it if you can to free up space. Police investigations take a ridiculous amount of time but there is a lot going on in the background that you're not seeing

Put the file on a usb drive by transferring to your computer then to the usb drive.

you can also send it via transfer to yourself via email. If unsure ask someone you know around you to help.

I second emailing it to yourself

You can’t email over an hour of video footage, way too big.

OP save it to a google drive which is free. Give them time.

I had similar. No perfect advice, because a range of responses from police (from vaguely bothered to disinterested) but record it via 101 etc every single time.

I had one incident (neighbour trying to get brick my window) where I dialed 999 and felt fobbed off.

Se dialed police non emergency the next day, and made sure an officer took my statement. And repeated.

It's not a magic solution, but it helped. Ended up with a.sympathetic copper who went a bit beyond to try and help because I was so fucked off.

There's not loads of help out there at the moment. I thought someone would come riding to my rescue (they didn't).

Just keep plugging away.

Get an account on Dropbox or google drive for the video footage. It is safer off your phone because your phone could get lost or broken.

police investigations take time but there is nothing to suggest the police aren’t taking this seriously. So give them time.

Just to update everyone. The detective finally got in touch and I did a statement at the weekend. I was in there for hours. He wanted loads of information. The neighbour was at his address and had been told he shouldn't be. He was literally walking backwards and forwards outside all day long which I showed the detective. He said he had broken a DVPO so was in serious trouble. I finished giving statement and uploading all footage, including that of the weapon, which he believes was a knife. He then said at the end "well, he has definitely broken the DVPO. But This probably won't go to court" i thought "why the f* have i sat here for hours if you dont think it would go to court" he said "because the wife will probably want him back"... i thought but surely brandishing a knife in public is an offence regardless of the wife pressing charges. Its an offence full stop. Especially the length of this supposed knife. Whatever was in his hand looked to be about 8 inches. I didnt ever state it was a knife and never said with certainty that I thought it was as I would be lying. Even if it wasnt a knife, it was his intent with threats before that. But this detective seemed certain it was a knife. Unless he was trying to test me to see if I followed suit and then would class my statement as unreliable. I am just left more confused.
So I left, came home that night to police cars outside. Turns out that another neighbour had called police as they heard screaming. He was found running away and bundled into a police van like a plank of wood. Eastenders couldn't beat this.

Needless to say... "please get me out of here".

MrBlobbyScaresMe · 22/08/2025 01:59
