To think that if weight management injections are on the NHS that weight loss programmes should be too?

For both those not eligible for the injections, would prefer a programme or those trying to maintain after having them?

What’s a weight loss programme?

AhBiscuits · 05/08/2025 14:56

They already have weight management clinics don't they?

Shoxfordian · 05/08/2025 14:57

I think weight loss programmes or clinics are on the NHS

Agix · 05/08/2025 14:58

Those already exist.

SoScarletItWas · 05/08/2025 14:58

They already are, they are Tier 3 of the four-tier NHS weight loss support.

Britpopbaby · 05/08/2025 14:58

I mean ones such as Slimming World or Weigh Watchers.

Most places do have some weight loss programmes

Our local NhS trust has weekly classes with weighing and a diet help person (they work with a dietician, rather than being one themselves). They also refer you to the sports centre and you get 10 weeks of classes either free or at reduced costs.
They can also refer to slimming world (there's no WW locally) as well.

They don't do injections though. Too costly. Signs up everyone at the surgery and community centre basically saying "don't ask, if by some miracle you meet our lines for qualifying we'll contact you"

They are ( although imo they aren't great). I'm on an NHS weight loss programme. As my BMI is over 30 it's free. When I went for my over 40s health check I was offered a slimming world course. Maybe look at your local authority website as mine is run through them.

Branleuse · 05/08/2025 15:05

They do OP.

Lurleenlumpkin79 · 05/08/2025 15:05

They already do?

HansHolbein · 05/08/2025 15:08

Weight loss management/clinics and WW/SW already do exist on the NHS.

Kuretake · 05/08/2025 15:11

They are - hooray OP you had what you wanted but didn't realise. Thread closed

PinkArt · 05/08/2025 15:20

Not only are they already available on the NHS, they're available with much lower requirements than WLI - BMI over 30 for WW/ SW rather than over 40 plus four other weight related conditions for WLI.
My BMI is over 30 still, so I've been offered a WW referral before. I'd happily have taken it up if they had any sort of decent track record with successful weight loss and maintenance.
