I keep seeing how good vinted is and tempted to give it a try as Facebook selling pages don’t seem to be very good anymore.

do you feel stuff sells well? I’ve got girls clothes and shoes and books (kids and adults) mainly. Are you forever at the post office seeing stuff off?

thanks

I am having a clear out and selling bits and bobs, mainly my clothes. My daughters sell and buy clothes for themselves and their babies. I am at the post office a lot atm. The thing to keep in mind is that you generally have to sell at very low prices, a fraction of what you paid in my case!

I sell on Vinted and it's hit and miss. I don't think it's the wonder some people say it is, but I have limited time to devote to it so maybe that's why.

In my experience, bundles sell pretty well and so does anything branded, but as with most things the price has got to be right.

JobIessInSeattle · 04/08/2025 15:50

Hit and miss, I'd only be taking them to the charity shop so I try to sell first, I have built up a bit of a pot of funds but no, it's not amazing! P.S. Buy my stuff!

Workworkwork01 · 04/08/2025 15:51

I sell and find kids clothes do well if they are decent brands; Next, JoJo, Boden etc sell well. Supermarket brands not so much.

Whatever I make selling I leave in my account and use to buy the next size up so it does work for me.

I’ve sold a few things recently. Some things I’ve learned:

-even if you price things cheaply, people will still offer less. I started adding ‘priced low to sell, no offers please’ to my listings to stop all the messages asking for a pound off a £5 dress! Still got a couple but it improved massively.

-Most people chose Yodel, or InPost lockers for postage rather than Royal Mail. You can set in your profile the carriers you are willing to use so make sure you only offer ones that have handy drop off points.

-I made sure I double bagged everything. I also put a wee post it note to say thanks in each parcel and it did seem to encourage positive feedback.

I think the low offer thing is Vinted prompt the buyer to make an offer so I think why not?

I’ve had a generally good experience selling until last week. I sold a blouse for £2 . It was a bright blue blouse and the photos were very true to the actual colour. The buyer raised and issue because she said the blouse was purple. I refunded the£2 because I couldn’t be bothered with a fuss. But I said to her that there was no way that the blouse was purple. She then said it just didn’t look quite what she’d been expecting. But she now has the said blouse and her money back.
i have also bought things like Levi jeans which I’m sure are fake but I’ve got no way of proving it. So you do have to be careful

SilenceInside · 04/08/2025 15:59

I've sold a decent number of clothes recently, all quality brand names and in good, excellent or as-new condition. Only one or two things haven't sold, so far. I always do clear pictures, including a picture of the brand label and material/washing label. I write a few sentences about the item, and mention any defects. I have no idea if that helps, but my items have all sold really quickly. I listed 4 items on Saturday, and three had sold within minutes, for example.

I have only had a few offers, and they were reasonable, not cheeky. I don't price things high, as my main motivation is decluttering rather than making money. But I have had some decent sales for nice items.

I get that, but I can’t be arsed dealing with constant messages asking me for discounts on already cheap items. When you’re selling a few things at once it clogs your inbox. If you are open to offers it’s fine, but I tend to price low for quick sales and less admin.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 04/08/2025 16:07

I find books and kids clothes sell really quickly, usually as I'm uploading loads of stuff it's selling as I upload

Pinkflower100 · 04/08/2025 16:15

Might have to give it a try. I prefer Facebook as people come to your door and collect rather than fafffing around posting. I’m not too familiar with yodel and inpost so will look into that first. Would be nice to try and get some money before it goes to the charity shops! I have a lot of clutter that would be good to get rid of.

I wouldn’t say it’s great, I sell things for much less than I want, for example I sell my DD clothes for a £20 dress I can sell it for maybe £2.50. I do it to get rid of the things to save on storage, not to make money. Buying I wouldn’t say is worth it either, yes some things are cheap, however once you pay buyers protection fee and postage, you’re paying similar to what you would in the shop new anyway

I think clothes sell the most adult and baby.
The market is generally saturated. We've all got so much stuff today.

witch000 · 04/08/2025 16:42

I wish Vinted would give you a option if you want to take offers or not.

Gardendiary · 04/08/2025 16:45

I’ve had more luck selling my own clothes, than kids clothes. I think the only kids clothes I’ve sold have had tags. I tend to price low, so I know it’s not that - I think a pp is right that there is just tons of stuff on there, also by the time you’ve paid ‘buyer protection’ and postage on certain smaller items, they’re probably not much cheaper than buying new.

Scoobyblue · 04/08/2025 17:13

Like other people have said, it's very hit and miss. I only sell really good quality branded items that are new or in very good condition. Sometimes they sell and sometimes they don't. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it.
Whem I first started nobody made offers, now everyone does so I price a bit higher than I want so I can accept offers and still get what I feel is a fair price.

ParvuliThankYouDebbie · 04/08/2025 17:18

I tend to stick with eBay simply because I’ve been using it for over 20 years and have 3k+ feedback and tend to get repeat buyers (I’m also selling mostly higher value labels), they sell quite well because of the auction system I think, rather than just sitting on there for ages. DD1 has started listing her clothing on Depop and it’s very slow to sell (she’s now going relist elsewhere). DD2 however, came home from Uni on Friday and has listed about thirty items on Vinted - and they’ve all sold already! She’s packing them now to take to the parcel shop. No idea if that is usual (she did price to sell) but seems to be working for her!

miniaturepixieonacid · 04/08/2025 17:31

Yes! I'm completely additcted to it. Both buying and selling. I'm really trying to cut down on my insane amount of clothing and love everything I have.

I've made £1200 since Feb (well, I haven't because I've bought loads of stuff too and I've sold on a lot on what I've bought, often at a loss, but still, it feels good!)

I drive past yodel and inpost shops 3 or 4 evenings a week and have a post office in my village so it's easy for me to send and collect.

I haven't owned a piece of clothing that didn't come from Vinted, a vintage fair, Ebay or a charity shop in years. And I love it!
