Does anyone else ever get this?

Going on holiday tomorrow. I can't relax.

What can I do to keep myself busy before bed?

I'm finding that cleaning is the only thing keeping me busy but I've kinda cleaned everything.

What are some random cleaning spots that people forget about? I need to throw myself into some tasks.

Also preferably not something that involves eating as I do not want to arrive on holiday with stomach bloat. But I am heading down that slippery slope...

What time are you going to bed? If it's at a normal sort of time you'll exhaust yourself if you clean for all of it!

I'd go out and get some fresh air if you can (watch out for flying wheelie bins, obviously), eat something healthy for tea, and then watch a familiar, comforting TV show or film before bed.

But to answer your question... I always forget about inside the tracks of sliding doors, and the freezer shelves, cutlery dividers, things like that!

i get really anxious before we go away, always have done.

Maybe take a long bath with body scrubs etc

Why would hidden cleaning involve eating?

Why would hidden cleaning involve eating?

Because I was also asking for general things to do, aside from cleaning. I didn't think it was a confusing post.

I've given the fridge cleaning to my husband. It's the one job that gives me the ick

Id rather clean the toilet 🤣

I'm gonna aim to go to bed around 8pm. So not too long.

I've never experienced this. Can't you read a book?

BBQBertha · 04/08/2025 15:19

Lift some weights? Go for a run?

CosyNavyLeader · 04/08/2025 15:19

Id like to be able to sit still and read a book but I just cannot. I feel like I need to be actively doing something productive.

I am well aware I must sound crazy to some people. But nervous energy isnt uncommon.

I know exactly what you mean. Family members were on a, abroad camping holiday and one had to go home because of his father going into hospital. I only had to pay for the flights. So booked to go the day before. I couldn't eat that day, or hardly sleep. Luckily I had to go from my DPs to mine, get in the loft for my suitcase, wash my holiday stuff, do shoppinh and a bit of cleaning.

Beaverbridge · 04/08/2025 15:34

Partner currently looking at flights to USA for 3 weeks time, my nerves have started already. Must be an age thing with me, been loads of times never felt like this before.

Yeah I got my weights out. That will occupy me for a while

I get this. Nervous energy is a good description, as it's not anxiety as such. If you've done all the cleaning etc you can usefully do, I find that going out and meeting up with friends is the best cure. Something which involves genuinely getting out of your own head, which is almost impossible to do at home. I'd never in a million years be able to go to bed early, I'd just lie there thinking about what time I needed to get up. Go to the pub.

CosyNavyLeader · 04/08/2025 15:49

It probably would be the best thing to do. But I can't be bothered to get dressed and go out 🤣

Im also pretty tired, because I didn't sleep well last night. I'm hoping I can doze off for a few hours before the 1 am alarm clock.

🫤 why would you make this link?

JillMW · 04/08/2025 20:58

I do. If I am going on my own I often just get in the car and set off then stop at an hotel near the airport or destination. I started it when the kids were small and were excited, I would say “ oh come on let’s just go”

Bumblefuzz · 04/08/2025 20:58

Never happens to me as I'm a last minute packer. I'm generally desperate to go to bed whilst trying to work out what I've forgotten 😂

This would suit me, but the airport is only 40 minutes down the road so not much point!

Oh, and as you can see, I didn't manage to sleep 🙃🙃
