New neighbour might be selling cars from their drive.

I am not sure if this is the best place to post but wanting to know if l am mad about nothing and don't really know who to ask.
We got new neighbours just over a week ago (our neighbour of 27 years died and the house was sold). We get on with all our neighbours just so you know we aren't horrible people and have had many in the property joining us over the years.
New neighbours have been a pain in the from the minute they moved in. We live in a semi and our drives are side by side. The drive isn't huge and you can get 3 cars on them maybe 4 - anyway they have now got between 5 and 6 and l think they are selling cars from the driveway. They have two vans, one has been reversed down the side of the house and they get out onto our drive every time he moves and this is at least once or twice a day. Cars are moved and rearranged several times a day/evening. We even had a car arrived last Thursday around 10pm on a trailer and people have been their looking at cars they bring from somewhere else the two weekends they have lived there,
Can you sell cars like this from your home?
Am l just annoyed about nothing?
We have always liked our house but now is it maybe time to move - doubt it will get better if this is how they start. I am also worried about all the people coming out to view these cars and checking out the area - not really making this clear but you just never know if they are really buying.
Oh and when my OH spoke to them a day or so after they moved in they told him they were really pleased to have moved to a nice area. But all these vehicles crammed onto their drive isn't keeping it a nice area. No-one else has this many cars and vans parked anywhere else on the street just us.
I feel like we are living next door to Steptoe and son at the junk yard.

Yes, we have reported it.
Van was sold and within 20 mins the next car arrived, guess that's tomorrows sale.

Good, hopefully they will do something. I guess you are keeping records, photos etc. 🤞🏻

Oh, yes. Keeping records and photos, video from my CCTV. Couple arrived about 9.25am and bought the car that arrived last night.
I have searched Facebook, Gumtree and Autotrader and cannot find any of the vehicles that have been here over the last 10 days. Where are these people finding them to come and buy them? I must be missing somewhere because they have to be advertising for this quick a turnaround.

I'm pretty sure the NDN isnt a car dealership, selling a few second hand cars from your driveway does not a dealership make

If they are selling regularly and for profit then almost certainly they are running a business and classified as a car dealer in law. They don’t even have to have a registered business for most if not all of the laws and regulations around buying and selling cars commercially to apply.

They have lived here for just under 2 weeks and there have been 10 cars and several vans. Sold another this morning so that makes almost a sale a day. But maybe to some people that is a few. But everyday now l have people trapsing over my drive, them moving cars day and evening, and using my drive to get through said cars because they are bumper to bumper. Yesterday l have no idea how she got out because she was almost touching my wing mirror with her car bur somehow she got out and they all squeezed between their cars and mine which l am now parking right on the edge of my driveway to try and stop them opening their cars over my drive and then stepping out onto it.

I had this happen at a previous house. Side by side driveway, no problem till the woman got a new boyfriend and he used to park his van on my side of the driveway if my car wasn't there. I was actually at home and had left my driveway clear for my mum calling round not for him to park on! Then boyfriend and neighbours son started selling cars from their driveway. Every night and weekend we had strangers round viewing the latest car that was for sale. These buyers would park on my driveway, blocking me in or out and neighbour never told them not to park there. They'd sometimes lean against my car whilst chatting and I've even seen buyers inspecting my car as if that was for sale too! I wondered who I could report it to but, in the end, decided to move out. I moved out before I sold it and they actually had the cheek to call round at my new house to suggest that they should park their cars on my now empty drive, to "make it look like someone was living there for security reasons". The cheek of some people is unbelievable.

Oh, from what you’ve described I would absolutely say they are dealing in cars commercially! Fingers crossed the authorities sort it out now you’ve reported.

Gumtree, FB marketplace, and eBay also have car listings.

Tried them all, but maybe once they bring the cars here for the seller to look at they removed them because l have tried everything. Make, colour, reg, area up to 30 miles/Km and none of them are coming up.

That’s a busy little business they’re running. Get your fence up pronto.

CraftyKit · 10/08/2025 11:53

So no cars sold yesterday. Must have been a day of rest.
Anyway another car has just arrived so am guessing the buyers are on their way.
Enough about that.
I have finally found this one on a selling site. Has only taken me two weeks of searching every site and finding nothing. Maybe l have hit it at the right time and they haven't removed it yet - maybe they do that when it is leaving the drive.
Thank you all so much for your advice.
Sorry, just one more question as l haven't sold a car like this before.
It say the sellers number is protected and gives a number. Would this be a service who take the calls or could it jus be informing people it might not be the person they call?

You’re building evidence for the authorities previous posters have advised you to contact.

Clearinguptheclutter · 10/08/2025 13:11

If adverts are appearing and disappearing quickly then they are clearly experienced at running this “business”
def call council as first step. Interesting that the police are clearly interested. I personally wouldn’t call the police

nothing wrong with them owning 6-8 cars and parking them on a public road. However they are clearly running some kind of business which is not allowed. Hopefully your council will be bothered. If only one advert live at a time it’s difficult to prove. You need to take a screenshot of each one. You don’t need to tell the council who you are. Set up a fake email if you want

btw having a “protected” phone number is normal if using autotrader or similar

Oh, yes. CCTV catches everyone.
Car sold today and he must have been waiting up the road for her to sell it because the buyer had only just left and within a minute or two he arrived with the next one. Really mad as l can't find this one on the car site so they must use other sites.
I just wonder if they register them? Not sure if you can buy cars to sell on and don't have to reg. Don't think l would buy one that was registered somewhere else.

Screen shot every evidence you find online. I would hate this happening next door to me

Shotokan101 · 10/08/2025 16:48

dmboot1 · 04/08/2025 23:25

No, they can't sell cars from their drive. I'm a Local Government Officer. Report to Council and they should send out an Enforcement Officer. Good luck OP, no one wants or deserves this next door to their home

Are you "ABSOLUTELY SURE" about that...... 🤔🥸

ACynicalDad · 10/08/2025 17:02

I'd build a small wall.

CraftyKit · 04/08/2025 19:20

That is awful. Sadly they bought the house so don't think they are going anywhere soon.

The snobbery is unreal here. Good grief.

amillionandone · 10/08/2025 18:56

Perhaps I'm missing something, but acknowledging that someone who has bought a house is less likely to move in the near future than someone who is renting doesn't strike me as snobbery. That's only a logical conclusion.

CraftyKit · 21/08/2025 15:05

Shotokan101 · 10/08/2025 16:47

Don't think any of them were taxed. At least the last couple we managed to find online just as they were being sold and when we checked that had been taxed that day l guess by the new owner.
Overheard her telling one of them it was her car - but she never mentioned it had arrived only a few days ago on a loader.
