We're currently on holiday in a lovely part of Southern Italy. It's absolutely beautiful.

But, it makes me so glad that I live in England!

We're a week into a ten-day holiday, and I've started to miss the English landscape, the weather (!) and the culture.

Is it just a pining for familiarity, or does going to other countries - no matter how pleasant they are - make you appreciate Britain more?

I've lived overseas for well more than a decade. There's elements of British life that I miss, such as queuing - it's dreadful where I am. The driving standards are also appalling here compared to the UK.
Whenever I am in the UK I also love a good mooch around a supermarket at all the things I can't get. But in reverse, there's groceries I would miss if I were to move back home.
I do have fabulous weather and exposure to people who are from all different countries and religions etc. so it doesn't feel as small minded as the UK.
There's no real utopia anywhere, but I think there's always a bit of home in us.

I've been on holiday in lots of lovely places but I'm always happy to get home and sleep in my own bed! I've never wanted to live anywhere else. But then, I live in Wales and the landscapes are breathtaking, our local beach is lovely and we're not far from a city so we have the best of all worlds!

I've never pined for home when abroad on my travels, probably because I know I will be going home eventually! Live in the moment and enjoy the change of scenery, food, people, and so on. However, I've been places that I didn't particularly like, but it never made me want to be home either, I went with the flow and found things to enjoy.

THEN, back home to the routine again, which is just part of the rhythm of things, if we are lucky enough to actually get away.
