To think a lot of mums treat their kids like emotional support animals?

Some parents act like their children’s job is to provide them with comfort, love and purpose. Isn’t that a lot of weight to put on a child?

Some do yes. Some don’t in general but the kids may seem them crying or upset in a crisis situation. For example I normally don’t put anything like that on my children who are 16 and 18 but I found out my mum is very seriously ill on Friday so I have been teary. They have both made me cups of tea today. Ultimately I am talking it through with close friends of mine rather than the kids.

So I don’t think kids should be burdened with every problem but when something major happens I don’t think it can be hidden from them.
