To think that clothing shops should provide face guards to protect clothing from makeup stains?

So many shops just put makeup stained garments back out and there is no guarantee that anyone who buys it will be able to get it out and the garment is still sold full price.

AIBU to think that providing face guards would be a cost effective method of protecting garments so that they continue to be saleable?

Some boutiques put chiffon scarves in the changing room.

I wouldn’t dream of getting make-up on a garment in a shop.
It’s actually damaging property that isn’t yours. It’s so rude.

Agree that the shop shouldn’t try to sell it, but what can they do? Discount the item, at least. But it is crap for small businesses.

They should say items soiled must be paid for and check the items before and after trying on, maybe even get you to agree there’s no marks before you try so you can’t dispute it. If you broke something you’d expect to pay for it.

They routinely provide disposable face guards in clothes shops in Japan. I had to point out I wasn't wearing any make-up a few times when I tried things on without one.

It's not exactly environmentally friendly, though, and I can't imagine the fast fashion places can be bothered with that sort of thing.

A top that was in my size had makeup on and they didn’t have another one in the size. No mention of discounting it when I pointed it out to the assistant.

No thanks. I think we've all had enough of covering our faces. You want this to be implemented, just so you can ensure you get your item, in your size, make up free? Think about how controlling that reads.

Rizzz · 01/08/2025 18:23

This used to be pretty standard in clothes shops during the 80s.

But really, if a customer gets makeup on the clothes they should be charged for it.

It's no different to spilling a drink on it.

No. I want it because it makes sense to customers and retailer alike. The retailers don’t have to disguised or discount products because of makeup stains and therefore ensure their revenue. It’s momentarily covering your face and it’s to the customers advantage in wanting a perfect garment. I don’t see how that’s controlling at all.

It can't be that hard to get clothes on without staining them. If people who wear make-up can't be arsed taking a few extra seconds to be careful then I can't imagine they'd be any more likely to take the time to put a mask on.

Such concern for her fellow women 🤣
And bringing covid masks into it. WTF indeed.

Why should I wear a face guard, that's not for a life or death situation? Am I playing a sport, where I need to protect my face?

Personal attacks? Nah, not worth engaging.

I still don't understand your comment about protecting or not fellow women. Never mind.

I said 'concern for' I didn't say 'protecting'.
What you on about?
