When I'm Prime Minister I'm going to make this a priority (sod the economy).
No Halloween stuff in the shops in bloody July, nothing Chritmas until after Halloween, or preferably bonfire night. And please make bonfire night an actual thing again.
Chritmas starts so early now I'm already over it by September.
Is anybody with me?

I think some of us (definitely looking at myself here) also need to try and fixate less on these particular times of year to the point where they end up miserable every January feeling like there's nothing to look forward to. I think I've decided I'm going to try and avoid some of these shops with early displays and focus on some more living in the moment even if I'm not a summer person.

Actually I have to say I am sick of seeing all the back to school malarkey. Just saw an ad on FB saying “it’s nearly time to send the kids back to school” um no it isn’t, we still have 4 weeks left!!

i suppose for Scotland it is. But yes, not nearly time for back to school for England and wales

Funny how Germany and Austria manage to not have seasonal stuff our months in advance (other countries are available, those are the ones I’ve spent time in).

I get the point about school uniform, but our local WH Smith had a “back to school” display before DS broke up for his summer holidays.

The Range had Christmas item in last week .. July !!!!!

HopingForTheBest25 · 03/08/2025 10:29

I think there are some shops whose whole business is about seasonal products, so I don't really mind if places like the Range have this stuff all year round. But it's bonkers not to be able to buy items that you still need in summer in supermarkets or clothes shops because they are filling their spaces with autumn ranges. Or selling mince pies in October that won't keep until Christmas, so are clearly not being sold to help people spread the cost and prepare.

Well mince pies would never last months in this house. I know some might find it weird but we eat them.
