To an outdoor car boot. We’re on day 6 but some still not crusting over, others have. Obviously would tell her not to touch anything. Thanks!

No, she’s still contagious if they haven’t scabbed over. Just keep her home for the extra day or two.

dementedpixie · 01/08/2025 07:55

No
Chickenpox is airborne so isn't just spread by touch.

Itsseweasy · 01/08/2025 07:55

Absolutely not. In my experience there are many areas in car boot sales where people end up crammed close together whether they want to be or not.

CatsorDogsrule · 01/08/2025 07:56

No.

Scooby2024 · 01/08/2025 07:56

Definitely not. It not all crusted over they wouldn't be leaving the house.

stichguru · 01/08/2025 07:57

No she shouldn't be in public (bar doctors if needed) AT ALL until everything has completely crusted.

Coffeeishot · 01/08/2025 07:57

Just what pp have said, just stay home till the.spots are crusty.

Lovleyjubley1 · 01/08/2025 07:57

Ok, thanks. A good fair amount have already scabbed but not all of them yet. I just thought the risk would be lower outdoors

No, of course not.

Baddaybigcloud · 01/08/2025 07:58

No! You could just ruin a whole load of kids summer holidays!!

DiscoBeat · 01/08/2025 07:58

No, not just for the customers sake but I'm sure the child would rather stay at home resting.

Lovleyjubley1 · 01/08/2025 08:00

Weirdly, I called the chemist for some advice the other day and they told me to bring her in and they could take a look. They never said don’t go anywhere either. Just to keep away from anyone who could be vulnerable if we did go somewhere

She’s absolutely fine in herself now. Day 4 was awful though and typically that was her birthday 😫. Really hoping they’ll all be scabbed over at least by Sunday or early next week

There’s a clear difference between the chemist for medical advice and a car boot. And even if the risk is ‘lower’ outdoors, it’s still a solid risk so the height of the risk is irrelevant. Chances are they’ll be scabbed over tomorrow, hopefully she can enjoy the weekend!

Eenameenadeeka · 01/08/2025 08:05

No, would be very selfish to expose others.

Did they prescribe you magic glasses so you could know who was vulnerable Confused

Cheeseplantandcrackers · 01/08/2025 08:11

Nope. Hope she feels better soon.

endofthelinefinally · 01/08/2025 08:12

That is very irresponsible advice from the chemist. There could be all sorts of vulnerable people in there. Pregnant, immunosuppressed, small babies. Chicken pox would be very serious for them.

Yes. Less problematic outdoors than in,
but still contagious especially to young babies, pregnant women, people with low immunity etc ..
suck it up, and go to the boot fayre next week !

sesquipedalian · 01/08/2025 08:13

I’m astonished by the irresponsibility of the chemist, considering there could be vulnerable people picking up medicines. But to think of taking a possibly contagious child into a busy public place - why would you?

Not weird, if u asked a pharmacist to assess a rash and confirm the diagnosis they HAVE to advise u to come in, otherwise how can they assess ?? And their advise re stay away from vulnerable people is of course correct,
so best to do that !

Pharmacists have been commissioned by NHS to do some clinical work that the GPs would have been the first port of call for,
like looking a rash,

you know the advert : think pharmacist first ??

im sure the chemists really don’t want poorly, rashy people in the shop !!

but that’s there role now

mamagogo1 · 01/08/2025 08:22

when my dd had chicken pox the doctor had to wait in the car park and checked the rash there! (I was on four and yes it was rainingConfused)

if you posted you had no food and needed to go to a shop for 5 minutes I’d say go ahead but an optional event like a car boot (had no idea they still existed, haven’t seen one advertised in 10 years, an aside) no. If you are stir crazy in the house a walk in the open air is ok but not play parks

Could you say how you are able to guess who is newly pregnant, who has immune issues and who is caring for someone undergoing cancer treatment? And how you propose to stop them from standing downwind of your DD while milling about a car boot sale?

Buy some jigsaw puzzles, extra lego, whatever and stay home. If you choose not to vaccinate then you need to take the consequences of waiting out the virus.

SweatyBettyAgain · 01/08/2025 08:26

No. And also please don't ever consider taking your DC out before they've hit 48h past symptoms with d&v in the future.
