Told about bonus then didn't receive one

Was told I had been exceeding targets in my role (junior call centre/admin role which is very target driven) and that I would be in line for a performance bonus on X date.

That has been and gone and as far as I can see my targets have not dipped, we are sent them every Friday by our managers.

My friend in another team doing the same role has been given a generous bonus for performance, the one I was told I'd receive.
It's not just me, I'm sure other team members are deserving.

I can't exactly say 'Hi, am I still getting that bonus?' Or maybe I can, but feels cheeky? It would help a lot with cost of living and would be nice to get a perk in this shitty low paid role because we don't really get any others.

I know I sound bitter but maybe I am!

Ask them about it. You have nothing to lose and potentially a lot to gain.

MrsDoubtfire123 · 30/07/2025 16:46

As soon as the day arrived and it wasn’t in my pay I would have called my manager immediately about it ! Come on OP … 🤦🏻‍♀️

Isobel201 · 30/07/2025 16:50

was the bonus submitted before the deadline for this month's pay?

limescale · 30/07/2025 17:00

See I would interpret 'in line for' to mean likely to happen, but not definite. Your performance review would have been the time to have raised it.

You definitely need to ask about it now. It's not cheeky. Asking for a present would be cheeky, but this is your WORK. If you haven't been awarded it then you can find out why.

You need to ask

Why can't you? I am damned sure I would!

UnreadyEthel · 30/07/2025 17:32

Do you have it in writing that you were going to get the bonus?

If so, you can ask, quoting/responding to the original email. I would frame it in a sort of ‘I think there may have been a mistake with payroll, the bonus I was due to receive hasn’t been included on this month’s payslip, please could you confirm when I will receive it’ sort of way.

Wisdomtoothpain · 30/07/2025 17:37

I will be asking when she's back in tomorrow, thanks for all the encouragement.

Voted YABU because you should query this.

MC846 · 30/07/2025 17:40

Speak up, someone will have forgotten to pass it on to payroll and it'll be cleared up easily when you let them know 💐

NevergonnagiveHughup · 30/07/2025 17:48

Your manager isn’t giving you money from their own pocket. They’re a representative of the company who told you you were getting a bonus. They’re have no actual skin in the game. So don’t be one bit shy about asking.

True, im going to ask. Although I had a performance review 2 days ago and there was zero mention of it.

Because you didn't bring it up.
