To think a lot of women only preach independence until a high-earning man comes along?

Feminism until financial comfort is on the table.

Absolutely ridiculous rubbish

For me financial independence just means maintaining some individual income alongside the capacity to earn more. For example I'd regard a GP working three days a week so she could spend time with her children who was married to a wealthy banker as financially independent even if he contributed a lot more to the joint expenses.

Yes of course if they divorced she might need to adjust her lifestyle, but the basic income would be there, and she would have the ability to increase hours if needed.

I do have friends who fall into this category. One admits she settled as she saw the potential for a good life for her and future kids and that’s exactly what she got. Big house, kids at private school and she is a SAHM to two secondary age kids and hasn’t worked in 12 plus years now. She isn’t in love with him and never has been. He is there for a reason.

I know a couple of others who couldn’t wait to drop to part time even though it would make them reliant on their husbands.
