Horrible norovirus/stomach flu

Edelweiss6529 · 30/07/2025 06:47

Anybody else experienced this awful virus? Never had anything like this in my life. Friday night I was violently sick out of nowhere which continued in to 24 hours of non-stop vomiting. To the point, it was just bile as nothing in my stomach, passed out on the bathroom floor. Ended up with a high temperature in bed for two days, can’t eat anything can only manage water. DD is 10 months and vomited once on Thursday but apart from that seems fine. DS is three and vomited once on Sunday night, has had a raised temperature on and off but seems fine. DH had a raised temperature on Saturday night and a headache, sore throat but otherwise it seems fine and hasn’t been sick. I on the other hand I’ve never been so sick in my life. Five days into this now I’ve stopped being sick but my body will not let me eat food it’s so hard to chew and swallow currently sat at the kitchen table trying to force some cereal down. Temperature keeps spiking again on and off throughout the days. I’ll start to feel like I’m getting slightly better and then it will all come back again. Starting to feel so deflated.

Hi everyone! It’s my gallbladder! Inflamed and filled with gallstones! I’m having IV antibiotics then I’ll be hopefully sent home if I’m keeping food down. Got to have it out in 6-8 weeks

At least you have your answer and it's treatable. What a relief!

Really good that you know what you are dealing with 👍. That’s progress of a sort! But sorry you are still suffering ill-effects 🥲

Hopefully they can manage your pain and nausea leading up to Op. Don’t let them send you home (a) without adequate meds (b) a number you can call in the event of a relapse so you can avoiding waiting in A&E for hours on end and go straight to the appropriate dept!

Hope you feel better soon. And if it’s any consolation, gallbladder ops have really moved on in recent times!

CalicoPusscat · 05/08/2025 19:01

Aw that sounds nasty but at least you have an answer.

I've got stomach pain but not noro (or gallstones!), it's just very sore. Sticking to sipping herbal tea and nibbling at things at present but it's only day 2. Probably brought on by the stress of moving a few days ago and having some jewellery stolen.

Ah poor you. This happened to my mum as well. She had her gallbladder removed just before Christmas and is feeling much better since.

robinibor · 05/08/2025 21:35

Wishing you all the best OP. Sorry that all sounds awful. Speedy recovery. Flowers

Glad you know what's causing it now, fingers crossed you'll feel a lot better by the time they send you home 🤞

I had my gallbladder removed last Saturday, I had one large gallstone which was causing sickness, reflux, tummy and back pain. A low fat diet will help whilst you wait for surgery, it did in my case, minimum amount of protein, potatoes, rice and pasta and lots of fruit and vegetables, no sugar, cakes or biscuits.

Hi everyone. Just thought I’d give you all an update. I was told by a doctor that my scan had shown my gallbladder to be enlarged and infected, and in his own words “ completely full with gallstones”. I was initially in shock at this as I hadn’t experienced any pain. I know people who have had gallbladder issues and it’s meant to be excruciating pain. Nonetheless, I was happy to get a diagnosis. After being so poorly.. I was told I would need three courses of IV antibiotics, to start ASAP and then would get my gallbladder out in 6 to 8 weeks once the infection was under control. That night in hospital. I waited and waited, but nobody came with my antibiotic drip. When I asked the nurses they checked, and came back to my bed. A nurse told me that there was no documentation of the conversation the doctor had had with me and no prescription has been authorised and that doctor had now gone home. They said they would find another doctor to do my prescription. I went to sleep and in the night about 4 am I heard the nurse doing the medication rounds. So I asked her if she had managed to get my prescription yet. The nurse then came in and told me she was really sorry she didn’t want to wake me up well that there had been a misunderstanding. She said a doctor has looked at my scan. My scan was completely clear nothing wrong with my gallbladder at all. She said there was another lady with the same first name as me who was in bed 9, I was in bed 19. This lady had an enlarged and an infected gallbladder. I couldn’t believe what I hearing. The doctor had given me somebody else else’s scan results.. the next day he came to apologise to me and you could tell he knew he had messed up big time. Anyway, my scan was clear apart from I had fluid in my pelvic area. So they think I’ve had a really nasty infection or it looks like a large ovarian cyst has ruptured. I got discharged the next day with a course of antibiotics.. I’m just glad to be home.

I’ve only just caught up with this op and wtf!? 😮😮

That is absolutely outrageous on so many levels! Thank heavens someone competent checked your scan before administering antibiotics. What is worse is that you are back where you started with no proper diagnosis! I hope you have put in a complaint to PALS!

Also, I hope you are feeling better now and haven’t had a recurrence?

Bikergran · 16/08/2025 17:46

Friends have had this and it's been diagnosed as the new COVID strain. Get tested.

robinibor · 20/08/2025 06:18

Goodness OP! What a time you are having. I hope you are better soon and your luck improves...don't walk under any ladders!

Edelweiss6529 · 23/08/2025 19:15

hi everyone. Since being out of hospital I’ve had 2 occasions a week apart where I’ve had random vomiting and nausea. It’s just loads of stomach acid/bile when I’m being sick. I’m going back to drs on Tuesday as I’m thinking I’ve possibly got a bad case of gastritis or maybe a stomach ulcer.
