Hello,

I was wondering how much you generally spend on a gift for your child’s classmate’s birthday gift?

Can you please let me know any ideas for 5 and 6 year olds (boys and girls) as we have quite a few coming up.

thank you

£10-£15 depending on how close a friend.

I quite often buy the Argos 2 for £15/£20 and keep a little stash.

Around £10-£15 around here. I have been getting decorate your own water bottle sets from Amazon lately. Fun and useful

Thank you - and thank you for the ideas.

£10 for a general classmate having a whole class party at age 5 in a hall, £15-20 for a closer friend as the kids get older and they do more expensive bespoke activities in smaller groups

I’d say around £10. The Works do deals for sets bought together, like craft kits.

Secularbeaver · 29/07/2025 16:05

I get stuff on offer for around £5-8 and keep a stash (smiggle pencil cases are a personal fave)

SkintSingleMumm · 29/07/2025 16:08

£10

Makingpeace · 29/07/2025 16:08

Another vote for £10-£12.

Usually a crafting kit like Djeco Build Your Own.

I usually get a small Lego set and packet of sweets. I buy the Lego when I see it on deal and stockpile

Fuzzymuddle33 · 29/07/2025 16:10

£6-£10

I use to buy about 20 Lego sets when they were offer as there were a never ending number of party invites for DT’s.

£10 ish for a class mate. £15 for a bestie.

stichguru · 29/07/2025 16:14

My husband says £1 per year of the child's age if they are just a classmate. £2 if they are a really close friend. Somewhere in the middle if they are in between! I would though put in the caveat that that was probably 5-6 years ago, as my son is 12 so parties of just classmates haven't happened for a while.

Stompythedinosaur · 29/07/2025 16:18

I always spent £5-8 but tried to get stuff in the sale that looked like it cost a little more.

Wafflefinder · 29/07/2025 16:25

£10 for a classmate, up to £20 for a best friend/child of one of my friends

Nomsdeplume · 29/07/2025 19:23

Thank you all!

From what I have seen, £10-£15 seems like the average around here, with £12-£13 being the most common budget + a card.
Most presents I have seen that were given to my DC (and that I have also bought) are things that keep them busy and can actually be utilised such as arts & crafts, drawing/coloring kits, beads and bracelet making etc. Plenty of age appropriate options around that price.

34ransum · 11/09/2025 14:10

For the first reception parties I was clueless and sent along relatively cheap gifts e.g. a £2 colouring book and some £3 crayola colouring pens

Then DS had his party and the presents he got were amazing! Often up to £20 lego sets or board games.

I had to up my game

SteakBakesAndHotTakes · 11/09/2025 14:13

I stock up in the Boxing Day sales...got a bunch of great gifts on clearance for around 2.50-3 each and give those out throughout the year

There’s a brand called Purple Ladybug on Amazon, lots of nice bits for girls in the £10-£15 range. I’ve gifted the decorate your own water bottle a few times and it seems to go down well, and my dd enjoyed the hairband kit

Everyone seems to give a tenner here.
