AIBU - to just want normal bowel movement

Is it just me? I had my DD 7 years ago, traumatic birth, lot of complications, lots of pushing. I had a 3 degree episiotomy. I am
a keen runner and I often come home having basically poo’d myself. I have little control over my no2’s. It’s so depressing and embarrassing, I don’t think it’s ever talked about. Anyone else experiencing this?

I can only comment on the experience my mother has with Magnesium lotion that she applies to her belly button at night.

If she rubs too much in the following morning when she wakes she goes to the bathroom and for want of a better description, everything is cleared out.

Magnesium has laxative qualities, so would something like that work for you? It would ensure your bowels are completely emptied in the morning and you could plan your running around that?

Half a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda, with half a spoon of brown sugar with hot water is better than any laxative.

Ah I had a 4th degree tear and had lots of physio input that really helped. Did you get offered any post partum?

Is the loss of control just when you're running, or is it all the time? If only when you're running, it could be runners diarrhoea (Google it - there's various strategies that can help depending on distances that cause it to happen). If it's all the time, then you shouldn't be suffering like this - go to your GP and ask for a referral to a gynaecologist and a women's physiotherapist. There are things that can be done for this including physiotherapy and surgery, depending on the cause. Good luck

It could also be a combination of the two - runners trots combined with a weak pelvic floor - in which case, both strategies will help

If you have the money go to a pelvic floor physio - miracle workers!
