Butter or any type of spread in sandwiches?
If I make say a cheese and tomato sandwich/roll, I never spread the bread with butter/margarine as it literally makes me heave. I might spread on a bit of mayo if it seems dry but that's it. If I go to a cafe I ask for the spread to be left out. If I buy a supermarket sandwich I can only eat tuna mayo as for some reason the spread doesn't bother me and is usually invisible.
I'm not fussy in any other way and have never met anyone else with the same aversion.

This could be me writing this! I can’t stand butter/spread on sandwiches, neither does my partner.

Butter makes everything better. Can't contemplate trying to choke down a dry sandwich.

Growing up, I never had spread mainly because of my fear of calories and the fat. I was also put off seeing how my mom would use marg to make slap dash sandwiches for my dads work lunch, like all lumpy and never properly spread out and the thought of biting down on one of the clumpier bits made me hur-eave 🤢.

But then, (helpfully during my peri years and when weight is harder to shift 😑), I suddenly acquired a taste for thickly buttered sandwiches as well as clotted cream and double cream all dairy products that previously made me gag!

I found out recently that the whole of America doesn't put butter/margarine in sandwiches so there's 300 million people like you 😁

Id guess there are loads of other non Americans who do the same

Some American restaurants do butter the inside but it is typically with breakfast sandwiches. Sometimes the inside of burger buns are buttered depending on the restaurants.

Think it’s a regional thing.

The only sandwich I butter the inside is when I’m making a sandwich out of a croissant and adding egg and cheese and sometimes a brioche bun with a bit of salted butter when having a butter after having a burger somewhere that did that.

i have ‘butter rules’ that seem impossible for anyone to interpret or predict:
sandwiches no but can cope if shop bought then would opt for tuna or egg
scones yes but not if with jam
crumpets no regardless of what else I’m adding
toasted teacakes yes
jacket potatoes yes but not with anything added
white bread no, whole grain bread can do
toast no

This is me. Can’t stand butter or any kind of spread on anything.

So glad I'm not the only one and not viewed as weird. I really only like Flora and it can be on any type of bread/toast but on its own except with marmite.
My DH used to play in a football team and their favourite after match snack was white bread sandwiches spread with thick butter topped with chunks of raw onion and cheese, yuck!
