Why are people so against private landlords?

I don't get it (and I'm not a landlord), no one shouts at Tesco that it is disgusting that they make money off selling something (food) to people on UC, when people need food TO literallysurvive/ live. But if someone has a business renting houses to people who need them, they are the devil. It makes no sense to me.

To make it worse, Tesco are also making profits by not paying a living wage to employees who then have to claim UC to top up their salaries and so benefit from profit from employees and customers.

Why do private landlords get such a hard time? They are providing a service to people that need it - AIBU?

Can all those who would get rid of private landlords tell me where my relative would have lived when they moved around the country for work on medium to long term contracts?
We live by a large teaching hospital where the doctors and nurses train on rotations and they rent... where would they live?
There are numerous examples of people like this who wouldn't qualify for social housing.

Letting agents massively compound the problem by flogging a load of pointless “services” that no one actually needs, e.g inventories and 6-monthly inspections. It’s just box-ticking and money-making dressed up as professionalism.
People are just living their lives they don't need to be 'checked'. The whole attitude is patronising as if tenants are guilty until proven innocent.
If I were a landlord, I’d tell the agents to chill out and stop selling this sh*t to justify their fees. Half the time the property’s full of stuff the landlord couldn’t be bothered to clear out anyway, threadbare ikea rugs and shit lamps, nobody’s nicking your broken mop, Dave.
