Partner agreed to look after dog in our holiday

So my partner has got 2 weeks off from next week he works in hospitality so the time together is welcomed….we don’t live together. Anyway he has just agreed to look after his boss’s dog during his holiday, it’s really annoyed me tbh, I was looking forward to some quality time together. AIBU?

YANBU.

What plans did you have?

Can the dog not slot in with plans some days, be left alone for a couple of hours others and you spend time at his house rather than yours ?

I get its not ideal to have this sprung on you but he's agreed now and I wouldn't let it ruin my time off with him

The dog won’t be coming to mine anyway, but yes I guess the dog will slot in. It’s quite young and not even sure how it’s going to be.

Dogs can be great fun. I’d plan some country walks and dog friendly pub lunches.

aloris · 26/07/2025 16:42

How on earth did he get saddled with that?

Because he is a people pleaser and doesn’t like to say no…regardless of my feelings

Yes I know I’ve owned dogs myself in the past.

He’s clearly not a people pleaser because he’s not pleasing you.

Ltb

He sounds weak and easily influenced by others - he won't learn to put you first and you'll be painted as controlling for having an issue with it

Yanbu x

I agree that you'll often feel like this, if you are with a people pleaser. It might be that he didn't want to just prioritise you. If it's happening regularly, then you need to cut your losses.

BananaCaramel · 26/07/2025 16:56

Sorry boss’s name - I didn’t realise because we don’t have one so it never really came up but unfortunately Fernandez is allergic so I won’t be able to look after the dog after all

Glitchymn1 · 26/07/2025 17:00

I’d love it… but you either work the dog in, or cancel your leave and rearrange? Or make your own plans with friends. Is it for the entire two weeks?

Your husband may be a people-pleaser but it was inappropriate for his boss to ask him to use his entire vacation to do free dog-sitting. The fact that his boss is in a position of authority over him makes it difficult for your husband to say "no." Does his boss normally cross boundaries like this?

Thanks and I agree, he’s not my husband though, I also think it’s unfair he works very long hours, and he is exhausted, but yes I think he would of found it hard to say no.

Seriously? Why would he agree to this? Is he always such a pushover?

BlueyNeedsToFuckOff · 26/07/2025 22:15

YANBU and I wouldn’t be seeing my partner while he had the dog. He’s made his choice about who to prioritise.

Cherrysoup · 26/07/2025 22:26

For how long? It is restrictive, we’re taking our 2 away for a long weekend and they obviously can’t be left in the Airbnb so have to come with us everywhere. Is he staying at his boss’ house or having the dog at his place?

No the dog is going to his house. I’m not sure how long I’m waiting for him to come home from work, we didn’t have many Plans tbh, but it’s more the principle for me
