Stay out all day or pop back home?

Inspired by another thread.
I've realised that I am a stay put all day type person. If I've gor coffee at 10am with a friend, then an event at 2pm I would stay out and about In between, whereas my friend would always pop home if she can. I hate the feeling of going home in the day. I like to wake up there, and return there and then that's it. I think this comes from living in a city where the commute home wasn't worth it multiple times in a day, but I now live in a much smaller town where it would be easy to do.
What about you guys, stay outers or pop homers?

I'd stay out as it's takes too long to get home and go out again by bus.

Yeah this is how I grew up/early 20s so I think it's ingrained in me

I am definitely a pop home person. Unless I'd be back at home for less than an hour in which case it's not really worth it and I'd stay out.

Depends a lot on logistics. I like being out and about, but also being at home. I hybrid work, so I can easily go straight to chores etc. on those days. I can also return via town on my work days, so I've often done any shopping before any weekend or day off.

With the timings you quote OP, I'd probably find it easy to stay out, pick up some lunch etc.

Panicatthegarden · 26/07/2025 10:31

I would probably take a book and stay out, I don't like travelling back and forth on myself. Or do some online admin on my phone if I wanted to be productive

There are so many things it depends on - is there someone home to sort the dog and feed the cats? How far away are the two events? How long does coffee take? What's the weather like? etc.

I’m definitely more of a “go out once and come back once” type, unless its unavoidable. If I head home between activities, chances are I won’t go back out again - I’ll usually find a way to get out of it! So I tend to plan my day in a way that avoids needing to leave the house more than once. It’s less about hating being out and more about how my momentum works: once I’ve settled back in, I’m done for the day.

Go home where the toilet is clean and the food and drink are already paid for.

I hate repeating a journey in a short space of time - my DD was at a village school I had to drive to, then did Brownies in the same village so once a week I had to do the school run, then have tea, then drive back the same way again and it annoyed me far more than it should have! Guides is in a different direction and doesn’t annoy me at all!

Doesn't it depend? But if there's somewhere else I'd want to go in between, I'd do that.
With those timings I'd probably plan a walk and nice lunch, or possibly museum visit or shopping, to fill the gap.

This is what I normally do actually. I try to go to local art gallery/museum. Or find a cosy coffee shop and read”

Me, too. I live in London so it’s rarely worth popping home between activities in town unless there’s acres of time between them and even then it’s very easy to find ways to occupy my time. But I was also recently back in the town I grew up in and even there I didn’t dash home at the end of each day; I drove out into the countryside to explore because it was so easy to do and the countryside and local villages are very pretty.

The cost thing is certainly something to think about but, ultimately it depends on whether home or "out" is a nicer place to be.

If I'm in a big, busy city with lots of swanky places to go and interesting things to do, or in a coastal town with a big beach to walk on and some pretty little seafront cafes or bars, I'll stay out.

If all that's on offer is sitting in Asda Cafe and staring at my phone I may as well fuck off home.

I'm a stay outer when I'm at home, but on holiday I like to be able to pop back to the hotel/apartment, I think often just for a 20 minute nap, to change shoes, have a shower etc - it's a holiday luxury!

Fine if you’re on your own and want to spend money.

Mewling · 26/07/2025 14:32

I’m a stay outer. I plan my day around it. Perhaps it’s because I walk everywhere, so I leave with all the stuff I need for the day and don’t come home unless I absolutely have to. Even with DCs activities, I make sure everything is as close to after school as possible so I don’t have to go back in between. I love being at home, FWIW, so I suppose when I get there I want to stay for as long as possible.

I feel 100%like this!
