To think this should have been taken more seriously?

Today was my last day working in a nursery as I am leaving to go to a new nursery. I spoke with a little one today who had some marks on her. Some bruises/mark on neck. Small scratch under the eye, larger one under neath that. And a large scratch on the arm that was deep and bleeding. I asked him what he had done and he said ‘mum’ then pointed at the marks and said ‘mum, mum, mum’ and then ‘mum’ again and hit his hand against his head. I said ‘who did that?’ He said mum again. Reported it to the room leader who wasn’t concerned and said he thinks because his speech is behind why he was saying mum. But to me , I took it more serious. As I’ve left the nursery now and they didn’t take it seriously. I don’t know how to approach

Report to council safeguarding lead if you're concerned, and let them follow up.

Well if you were unsatisfied with the response of the room leader escalate it to the manager / owner / safeguarding lead.

Contact ofsted, LADO, or children’s services. It’s better to report and be wrong than not report and be right.

OneCalmFish · 24/07/2025 18:31

I’d report it especially given all the stuff we seem to see about kids being abused horrifically because nobody’s been reporting and it has escalated, better safe than sorry

This. Also, you know his name and his nursery and can report it easily.
