- well more ridiculous rather than unreasonable - to really want a girly tea set?

I have secret yearnings for a girly tea set. Something pretty, dainty, probably floral but possibly not. Along with the tea set I want a tiered cake stand - probably white/cream. I also want pretty floral bunting. And I want to combine all three and have a lovely, girly tea party with lots of little cakes or tiered cream-filled big cakes and dainty sandwiches. All of this will take place on a sunny morning or afternoon, with no husbands or children in sight.

The tea might possibly give way to champagne at some point...

But in reality a) I don't really think any of my friends would go for this type of thing (they'd all just want to move swiftly onto the champagne) and b) it's only likely to happen about once a year - if that, so doesn't justify the cost of getting a lovely girly tea set, does it?

Maybe it's because I'm surrounded by boys, but my inner girly-girl is dying to get out. My husband thinks I'm barking. Am I?

wily - they wouldn't laugh if it meant they got to eat cake.

I love things like that, I'll come.
Maybe you could tie it in with a money raising idea for a local charity.

WilyWombat · 27/06/2008 12:09

True, specially as a 3 tier cake stand means you have to supply quite a lot of cake...I did contemplate putting sarnies on one plate but that would be such a waste

cheesesarnie · 27/06/2008 12:09

i want to come!

Tea tastes very much better in a cup and saucer.

WilyWombat · 27/06/2008 12:15

I am afraid I need my tea in a mug the size of a bucket

JoshandJamie · 27/06/2008 12:20

Tas1 - I am raising money for our local hospice which looks after terminally ill children. It's part of their tea at 3 campaign. It all sounds awfully worthy but really, the money raising bit was the excuse I needed to convince DH to take children away so that I could have an afternoon of girly chat and eating cake.

Cheesesarnie - come in spirit (don't think you live near me sadly) and make yourself a big fat cake and cup of tea.

joshandjamie - sounds fantastic, hope it goes well.

Well the tea party went off very well. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves - a blissful afternoon without children/husbands. Only bummer was the lack of sunshine so we had it indoors, but it was still brill. And it's safe to say that I am officially sick of cake. See pics in profile for photos of the feast!

Yum yum! Are the custard creams the Nigella recipe? Did they taste as nice as they look?

JoshandJamie · 30/06/2008 08:07

janeite - yes the custard creams are nigella. They do taste good, although I think they still look better than they taste. Can never have too many hearts!

I am so proud of you what a fantastic spread!

I'll have it back you know, just you wait!

You are an absolute star, I bet you had a (very ladylike) scream and gossiped the afternoon away!
