Any vets? Really worried-TPLO surgery

Hi, really hoping someone can help- I’ve got myself completely worried sick.

my dog had TPLO surgery 2 and a half weeks ago. We were told by the vet as part of the recovery she cannot walk or run or jump and has to rest for 12 weeks whilst the bone heals around the plate. She’s been fine with this (she’s been so sleepy after the op she’s pretty much slept, and I’ve been WFH so I’ve been with her pretty much 24/7 and she’s never been left alone.) I’ve carried her about so she’s mainly just walking on her leg on the grass to go to the toilet. Unfortunately tonight whilst out for the toilet she had the zoomies and started jumping up and down on her hind legs and trying to jump up to me. I was trying to calm her down but she’s a large breed so difficult to scoop up and lift up when she’s jumping about excitedly and she was probably jumping on it for 3/4 minutes.

I’ve got myself worried sick that she’ll have damaged her leg, dislodged the plate or undone all the careful post op care we’ve done. And of course it’s almost 11pm so I can’t call the vet until tomorrow. If there are any vets on here, if you can give any advice or reassurance at all I’d be really grateful. Thanks x

I'm not a vet but my dog's had TPLO surgery on both legs. Sometimes this is unavoidable! Keep her really quiet tonight and tomorrow. Have you got a crate or pen for her? See how she is in the morning, if you're worried call the vet then. I think you'd be unlucky for her to have done proper damage in a couple of minutes. Realistically even if you spoke to a vet tonight I doubt they have you rushing her in unless she was more markedly lame.

Thank you so much for commenting!

thats really reassuring to hear. She doesn’t seem to be walking any different to her normal, and she’s not visibly in pain (she’s not howling or crying at all, she’s lying in her bed sleeping happily!)

I think I just got myself so worried and hopefully it was over nothing. We’ve followed every bit of advice from the vet so far and she’s been a superstar in terms of not being able to run or jump or play whilst recovering, and I was just utterly terrified she had reversed all the healing in that few minutes of jumping!

If she's sleeping happily I'd suggest you go to bed and do the same x

Not a vet either but we are in week 6 of recovery and I’m surprised I’ve not had a nervous breakdown. It’s so difficult isn’t it, I worry constantly as don’t want to go back to square one. Mine gets hyper when the kids come home (jumps up to see them and tries to spin) I had to put her on Trazadone for the first four weeks to get her to keep calm. She did this a few times and I was worried sick but the vet assured me I would know if the implant was compromised. There would be pain, heat, you may even see it. Hopefully that might help settle your mind tonight but call the vet in the morning and they can advise. x
