To ask how much you spend on each size clothing for your DC?

I have a couple of baskets on different websites and the total is summing up to around £200 for everything she needs as staple clothing- including jackets, cardigans, socks and tights, vests and sleepsuits, leggings and tops multipacks, a couple of dungaree sets and a few dresses. I haven’t really noticed cost previously as we bought all the baby clothes in advance in sales when I was pregnant, some things from Vinted and also received a lot of gifts. If you had to estimate how much do you roughly spend on a full wardrobe for each size? I don’t know if £200 is outrageous… it feels like loads! Nothing designer of course, I don’t see the point in it when they will outgrow and get stains on things. I’m not averse to buying some things off Vinted but do like buying new for her as well.

That sounds about right, including shoes and uniform I probably spend £300 a year to buy everything from Asda.

I do hand my 10 year olds stuff down to his brother every time I buy a new wardrobe which is on average yearly. I don't know how much longer I'll get away with doing that though, he's coming up to 8 and was a bit sad the other day that his brother got all new stuff and he didn't.

Not much. I get most things second hand or charity shops.

kids clothes get worn for such short periods of time it just makes no sense to buy brand new, not to mention terrible for the environment.

I also buy things big to grow into, so they get more wear out of them.

I also don’t ever buy a whole set of clothing at a time. I just buy what I need as I need it, so have never spent £200 all at once.

Babies grow quicker and they trash the staff more with nappy leakages and milk sick. I was very lucky and got a load of stuff handed down from family when I was pregnant with #1 which subsequently got handed down to #2. I used to love getting the binliners down from the loft when it was time for a new size and seeing what there was in there.

When we are finished with clothes if they are still decent I give them to friends or put them in the clothing bin at supermarkets in the hope they go to people who need them. I tried selling bundles but I don't have the patience to take photos of every single item for the sake of £20 so I don't bother.

No idea, I only ever buy things as needed. I’d not buy things like jackets and cardigans in summer in advance. I assume this is a baby you are talking about? I never put my baby in a jacket. It’s not like they are outside in the rain running around. They’d be in the pushchair or in the sling (under my coat). Probably had one dress and one set of dungarees but only once walking.

There is a difference between need and want, and they don’t really need much beyond vests and sleepsuits, a few tops and leggings, and a couple jumpers for layering in the first year.

I dearn't think! Tbh I don't buy it all at once as sizes vary so much they always fit in something longer than others. I just bought as needed for my eldest and the rest have a lot of hand me downs and things from Vinted. If you are buying new I can easily see how you'd spend £200 especially with shoes.

Hodgemollar · 22/07/2025 19:24

I don’t buy all at once as I find they don’t grow out of everything at the same size. I have a 1 and 4 year old and probably spend a few hundred on each over the year.

Gemstonebeach · 22/07/2025 19:27

Mine are older then yours but I get a lot in the sales the year before which saves a lot of money!

Bodonka · 22/07/2025 19:31

I spend about £400 a year - DS is 6. That’s mostly nicer brand bundles on Vinted, plus supermarket school clothes/underwear, and seemingly endless shoes which I normally get new from an Outlet (gone up 3x shoe sizes this year so far 🫠) ~ I tend to make most of it back on Vinted though, which is both a blessing (less spending) and a curse (endless pot of Vinted credit to impulse spend)

Surreymum538 · 22/07/2025 19:33

I have a just turned 18 month old. I get 80% from Vinted and then buy a few bits new usually from Next. I don’t know exactly how much I spend but not that much. If I was buying brand new I could easily spend way over £200.

frostedshreddie · 22/07/2025 19:44

I do a spring/summer big basics buy and and autumn/winter one and then top up here and there with anything that is needed in between. I usually spend £150 each time in total for both my children age 6 and 4.

JustMarriedBecca · 22/07/2025 19:49

More than that I think.
School shoes alone are £60 plus £30 for trainers. £30 for football shoes. That's £120 just on shoes!
School uniform is probably £60-100 a year. I buy 5 jumpers, 5 bottoms (a combo of PE bottoms, school trousers and shorts)
Couple of pairs of shorts for summer. T-shirts I buy new.
Grandparents will often buy a coat for birthdays. Aunts and Uncles buy football kits.

For DD, she has a lot of Vinted. I probably did her main summer wardrobe for £30 including postage with £20 for Vinted Saltwaters. School shoes are £60 again though, trainers £30 and school uniform probably £50-80 (she's less messy so I can get away with not needing a change of clothes daily)

autienotnaughty · 22/07/2025 20:56

I get mostly on Vinted or charity shop plus sometimes he get clothes/trainers for birthdays. But probably £150 a year including uniform and shoes and coat
