I'm fine going by myself

If a friend suggest to you to go to a show/concert/event and as part of the invitation says "I'm happy to go by myself, but would love for you to join me ..."

Is that rude?

Unreasonable: RUDE!
Not Unreasonable: not RUDE!

It's the very opposite of rude.

If you've received this and are offended you need to get a grip.

If you are the sender and the recipient is offended tell them to get a grip.

pinkdelight · 22/07/2025 08:24

Click the wrong one and phone won’t let me change it, but it’s not rude at all, just not putting pressure on the recipient which is nice.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 22/07/2025 08:34

How could it possibly be rude?

She's inviting you to something but not pressuring you to go to it

Nevertheless, no you can't is incorrect. The correct response would have been "No, I can't do that, it is not working for me."

Then equally the response shouldn’t be “yes you can” but “I can”

You have told people that they can do it which you don’t know is true.

Omg 🤣

No I can’t, it simply isn’t working for me, I do apologise muchly

Barrenfieldoffucks · 22/07/2025 15:11

Surely this actually just shows the person inviting wants you there because they want to see you, not because they're desperate for company?

SittingOutsideInTheRainIsSoPeaceful · 22/07/2025 15:11

Who has said it's rude?

Because it's definitely not.

MightlySlad · 22/07/2025 15:14

I say this quite often. For me it is 1) so that the person does not feel under pressure and 2)so that they know that I am generally happy going places by myself and won't be upset if they don't come. It can be borne of anxiety, not wanting someone with me somewhere if they're not 100% happy to be.

I dont find it rude at all if It's ever said to me. I think It's polite and courteous.

Alltheyellowbirds · 22/07/2025 15:17

It’s the opposite of being rude. It’s trying to make sure you don’t feel obliged to go just so that she can.

DappledThings · 22/07/2025 15:18

Agree with everyone else, it's the opposite of rude and is clarifying there is no pressure on the invitee to go if they don't fancy it.

Sakura7 · 22/07/2025 15:24

Why would you even think it might be rude?

DiscoBob · 22/07/2025 15:28

How is it rude? They're trying to not put pressure on you, and are simply telling you the truth that they will probably go anyway. But would love you to join them.

What should they have rather said? 'Do you fancy coming to this nice thing I really like. If you don't come with me I'll just have to stay at home and miss out on it'?

That would seem really weird.

purplecorkheart · 22/07/2025 15:31

Not rude at all.
People seem to be taking offence to everything today.

CalicoPusscat · 22/07/2025 15:32

SaintGermain · 22/07/2025 04:14

I clicked the wrong one!

Shes not being rude at all.

Yeah me too! But click on the other option to amend

Searchingforaunicorn · 22/07/2025 15:37

Putting it that way tells the invitee that the event is important to the inviter and that they are going regardless (but would love their company)

It avoids the invitee coming back with ‘how about we do this instead’

It’s not rude at all, just sets the situation.

Cinaferna · 22/07/2025 15:45

The opposite of rude. I'd interpret that as them saying, "I'm not inviting you because I'm scared to go alone, I'm asking because I enjoy your company."

Empress13 · 22/07/2025 05:03

No you can’t

You can on the website, perhaps not on the app.

Arlanymor · 22/07/2025 16:00

Opposite of rude, it’s a compliment!
