to expect an apology from [baby clothing comp] customer services

Hi all,

Just a bit of a winge....

DS is now 5 months and has outgrown his 3-6 vests from a certain retailer... so I got the next size (6-9) out of the pack and washed them....

Would you believe that there is an inch in length differnt between the three vests? TWO are the same length as the 3-6 and one will fit him for a few more weeks...

They are only cheap I know, but it's a pain that I've now got to buy some more and these will go to waste unless I can find a very wide short baby

So I wrote to Customer Services at said retailer to tell them of the poor manufacture and got a really unsatisfactory response saying basically that they won't take any notice of my complaint unless I send the vests in...

What is the point when they only cost £5 to start with? All I wanted was some reasurrance that they'll look into it and try and improve quality in future oh and of course an apology for the inconvenience...

Clearly asking too much?

You are taking it too seriously.

eenybeeny · 27/05/2008 13:11

I know its a pain but I agree with hercules. Pick your battles!

Send the vests in and see what happens. You will find as babygrows it is impossible to just buy clothes by age.

VictorianSqualor · 27/05/2008 13:12

Are you sure you didn't shrink them in the wash?
Plus the sizes are just a guideline, I suppose the retailer thinks that you want a refund or something, for which they need to see it, and they probably think that you shrunk them too..

bubblagirl · 27/05/2008 13:18

i could never buy for age had to look at height etc on labels and you will notice that although length isnt much difference sometimes they stretch and do last longer than you expexct once they have some wear in them

i always bought size bigger if it was cheap clothing to allow for shrinkage

They won't do anything because you washed them.

They can argue that they were bigger before that (even if not true) and also the small print on the packet often says that the sizing is a guide.

fizzbuzz · 27/05/2008 13:53

Aaah, but what you are talking about is tolerance, and it shouldn't be an whole inch...no way.

I used to be a childrenswear designer, and vests should all be a similar size if bought together, perhaps 2 or 3mm bigger/smaller but no more.

The item obviously escaped their stringent Quality Control testing. Even if they are washed they should all stay the same. If they don't they are faulty.

You can get your money back, but for £5.00?

NotABanana · 27/05/2008 13:54

I bought a babygrow for DS1 in Tesco that I was convinced had shrunk. They exchanged it no problem. This was 2001 though.

Also cheap retailers don't test things properly or have good qc/customer service. Nor do they care, if they are getting the money in.

M&S would care, not sure some others would
