To think these additional charges were unfair

I had some hair extensions put in yesterday, the price listed was one price for the fitting rather than per row, and I had paid in advance when I booked online.

As the technician was putting the hair in she told me she'd be doing another row as my hair was fine and she thought it'd look better.

The appointment finished, I got my stuff and then she said, "Oh so that'll be another £25 because of the extra row I had to put in if that's ok."

I understand it took her a bit longer but the online price didn't specify 3 rows only, it was a generic fitting. I ended up just paying it and not disputing because I sometimes freeze in situations like that and lose my words which I know is not good.

I won't go back to her but obviously it's too late now. I hadn't budgeted for that extra, aibu to think it's not good to spring unexpected charges like that on people?

Tbh i felt i didn't really have a choice, what would have happened if I'd just said no and walked out? Surely I'd be blacklisted, but could she have reported me or anything?

She should have inforned you about the extra price so you could say no.

Ive not voted as I dont see it as a yes or no answer.

I think the hairdresser is at fault for having an online booking system where you pay in advance online without a consultation. Even for a standard haircut many hairdressers say prices from and it's only at the appointment they will give the price once they have assessed the clients hair (length, thickness etc).

I understood what yout YABU meant. I merely meant I dont think the abswer is you should not have been charged (or that you should) I think she should have given you the information that ir would cost more so you could make an informed decision.

I agree. She should have told you that there would be an additional charge.

Why don’t you just leave a review?

PsychoHotSauce · 20/07/2025 06:37

She just decided to give you an extra row "as it will look better" and sprung the price after it was too late.

She can't sell you one product to get her hands on the advance payment and then once you're committed, decide to change it to a more expensive one (without telling you its more expensive until its too late to say no!). Its against every consumer law going.

For £25 I'm not sure I could be bothered with the hassle though. You're not in the wrong, at all.

Inthecafe · 20/07/2025 07:31

Are you happy with the end result?

But it’s not as clear as that

she should have told you price (unless the price per row was advertised?)
You should have asked in the absence of her telling you

and…. What would your hair look like without that additional row?

Gettingamixedresponse · 20/07/2025 08:11

She should have been upfront about the pricing

Beyondburnout · 20/07/2025 08:17

IME hairdressers do this all the time. If you like her work I'd suck it up.

millymollymoomoo · 20/07/2025 08:23

The pricing policy needs changing to be much clearer. Either they price per row or state the price listed inc 3 rows and additional rows will be extra , or they price for all inc regardless of how many.

you should follow up with them and state their policy needs updating so it’s clear

Eenameenadeeka · 20/07/2025 09:07

She should have told you, when saying she was putting in the extra row, that it would increase the price.

This is a very strange way to charge for extensions. I’ve been having them for 10+ years and no one has ever charged per row. You usually pay for the hair (however much you need/want in the length you choose), then pay for fitting separately. Fitting covers their time for however many extensions they put in as well as cutting it into a style.
They know how many they’ve bought and how long it’s likely to take. This is always discussed before the fitting when you pay your deposit. Did you not have a consultation where all of this was discussed? Booking online only seems to be the problem here if not.
If you have fine hair you’ll need more and the only question now is are you happy with the outcome? Extensions are not cheap and if she’s taken longer to give you a better outcome it’s likely worth it.
