dh swam in the sea,

would you swim in the sea after the rain?
if not, how long would you leave it? <<sewerage>>

Surfers against sewage have the ‘safer sea and river’ app to see pollution levels in real time.

PollyBell · 19/07/2025 04:42

A big storm I wouldn't but normal rain I have no issue in doing so

tipsyraven · 19/07/2025 12:13

Depends where you are. Check the app but already in south east there have been discharges into the sea, I saw a post on X earlier. I wouldn’t risk it myself.

Neves7 · 19/07/2025 12:16

Near me the general guidance is to wait 24-48 hours after heavy rain provided there are no warnings posted. Light drizzle doesn’t make much difference.

mindutopia · 19/07/2025 12:18

After rain is totally fine, assuming safe to do so. After a sewage dump, no. I always check the surfers against sewage app if I’m swimming in an area that has sewage overflow or flooding to cause agricultural runoff off. It only happens about once or twice a month that we get an alert and we get a lot of rain here.

Check the app for sewerage dumps.

otherwise fine, I absolutely would

classiccake · 19/07/2025 12:32

I love swimming in the rain.

Lucyintheskywithdiamonnds · 19/07/2025 12:34

There’s always sewage over flows into the sea after heavy rain. The safe sea app confirms it. So it’s a big No from me.

MrsSkylerWhite · 19/07/2025 12:36

Wouldn’t swim in the sea full stop.

Have you seen the latest figures on raw sewage discharges (BBC News last night)? Bloody awful.

Waggytail · 19/07/2025 12:37

Apparently so called 'dry spills' are common here and that has put me off swimming in the sea altogether.

0BSESSED · 19/07/2025 12:39

I swim in the sea every day. Never been ill
