Robinsons advert

Now I usually don't let this sort of stuff rile me, and maybe its because I am coming to the end of a very long term which has involved some incredibly difficult parents. But the new Robinson advert, where the teacher speaks to the mum who agrees to chat with her son and proceeds to giggle with him over a glass of newly poured drink is so disrespectful. It just adds to the view that teachers are there to be ignored, parents know best and its not a partnership but a " them and us".
Like I said normally this nonsense washes over me but having seen the advert twice in the space of 50 mins its got me hacked off

I have watched that advert so many times and always miss what’s said at the beginning. I kind of guess that the laughter is conspiratorial between the child and its mother but have concluded that it’s a really badly directed Ad if it fails to tell its story properly in its 30 second slot. I hate all the gluggy pouring noises and it makes me actively hate the product. Their Wimbledon ball boy/girl Ads were so iconic back in the day. This one fails, big time.

GriseldaChop · 18/07/2025 23:08

I’ve seen it a few times and thought the same thing! It’s not exactly giving a good message to giggle about getting in trouble at school! I bet she rings to get him out of detentions too! Haha!

This made me laugh! I have lost track of the number of times I have had to explain that consequences are not optional and " he said he did nothing" won't cut it.

This advert infuriates me! It hugely undermines the teaching profession and trivializes two of the key problems in UK schools; that of poor behaviour and lack of parental support.

champagnetrial · 18/07/2025 23:18

I agree and I have thought this. If the teacher is ringing her, it has to be some pretty serious shit.

(I also thought if she was that precious about her little prince, she would have given him filtered water rather than tap, which she didn't even run properly first. Especially with the headlines today that 60 percent of our water, including drinking, is contaminated. Maybe she's laughing because she knows she's poisoned the little tyke).

Anyway, it's a wrong 'un ad on so many levels.

Pyjamatimenow · 18/07/2025 23:21

I didn’t really take it like that and I’m a teacher. More that he’d done something silly/ funny but not actually really naughty or awful.

I agree. I did think I must have missed something, but, upon seeing it again - no doesn’t seem so. More importantly for the product though, it puts me right off buying it. I assume that advertising’s purpose is still to get you to buy?

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 18/07/2025 23:35

I get would up by the not running the tap and the huge serving of squash.

I thought he had been naughty, teacher had already spoken to him. It’s a pretty shit ad.

BeeCucumber · 18/07/2025 23:38

I don’t know why they are giggling but I’m not happy about the amount of squash that is being put into the glass before adding water. Is Robinson’s squash so weak that you need more just to taste it?

LittlleMy · 18/07/2025 23:58

I see what they were trying to do but the execution is terrible. The laughing outburst at the end implies the incident was silly/daft yet the fact mum was called out of work to get her child implies the school thought it serious. So basically it’s promoting undermining teachers concerns. Interestingly most of the comments on YouTube are quite scathing with many requesting it be pulled.

Fushia123 · 19/07/2025 00:00

Awful advert - promotes disrespect and is thoughtless.

Exactly!! I'm glad it's not just me! I'm retired now,but I had so many similar conversations with parents at the end of a school day after so-called 'silly' behaviour had led to low-level classroom disruption, loss of concentration and had affected others' learning too.
DH has started to automatically go for the mute button now each time this advert comes on!

furrysocks · 19/07/2025 08:17

Can’t imagine this advert airing in a country which respects teachers and education.

randomchap · 19/07/2025 08:44

If it was real life that kid would be a proper pain in the arse. Low level disruption in the classroom and a mum who doesn't give a shit

Awful advert

rainbowstardrops · 19/07/2025 09:25

I’m glad you’ve posted this @Teacherontherunningmillbecause this advert drives me crazy too! I rant at the tele about disrespectful blah blah blah every time!
I was a TA for 13 years but this sort of disrespect is partly why I left and haven’t looked back. Awful advert 😡

Dustythewondercat · 19/07/2025 09:28

do we know what the child did? maybe he stood up to a bully

Nope, it says " silly behaviour". That silly behaviour is what then stops other quiet, compliant kids being able to learn. Its what wastes my time when I could be helping children, its the kind of behaviour that very quickly escalates. And its the kind of thing we so desperately need parents backing to call it out as not ok.

Glad I’m not alone in this. Just a parent but thought straight away what a great lesson to teach kids that they should laugh at their teachers. Most parents are gonna see it once and switch channel ever after

millymoo1202 · 19/07/2025 11:38

Saw it last night and thought the same thing , pretty poor

The one in the advert isn’t double concentrated like a lot are so the juice serving was normal.

Absolutely!

Whitehorses67 · 20/07/2025 09:51

Yes!
This stupid advert sums up much of what is going wrong with society.
I hate it so much that I have stopped buying their squash.

Have tried to find an email address to write a complaint to but the website only has an ‘in house’ one. Anyone found a better link?
