Sick of neighbours dogs howling and barking at all hours

Neighbour has 2 dogs, they’ve always been ones for howling and barking. They’ve either got worse in the last few weeks and/or she’s changed her routine. Today one of them started at 630am. Last weekend it started early on both the Saturday and Sunday waking us up. I’m not having a re-run of that this weekend so lm going to text her. Im totally sick of it now and the dogs don’t sound thrilled either. They are mid terrace so it’s not only me they are annoying

Now trying to decide what to put in the text as overall we get on. I need to put something more polite than “we are sick of their howling / barking, it’s antisocial”

Don't text. Go and speak to her (nicely though, yes?)

Gizlotsmum · 18/07/2025 07:54

Are they being left? If she is leaving them she might not know so I would start with mentioning you heard them from x time. You might need to give her a bit of time to sort it if she is leaving them but make sure she is aware first

I agree with pp - go round in person and speak to her!

You shouldn't have to put up with that and it sounds as though the dogs aren't happy either.

I wouldn't text. It's so easy for things to be taken the wrong way and become an argument that needn't happen. I'd just go to see her and explain.

Im pretty sure she does know! I think the routine is she takes one, comes back and then takes the other for a walk. I’m keen to avoid the typical British vibe of “l think your dogs are howling when you go out…”. When we KNOW they are howling and are sick of it.

Thanks for reminding me to be nice. I have the sense to not burn bridges with my neighbour even though they are being a pain

She’s out while it happening. I’m reluctant to have to get dressed and go round, plus it’s probably not going to help my irritability about being woken up early. Life is busy, lie ins are rare and there are other niggles with this neighbour e.g. hoarding is so bad in her garden it’s at risk of toppling over a 6ft fence 🙄

"Hi neighbour, your dogs barking is becoming too much. They've never been a bother but now it's waking us up. Any chance you can try and address this?"

Ultrasonic Dog Botherer - turn it on if it howls, off if it stops.

Failing that:

MAGIC STEAK 🪄

You could go round later in the day.

Sounds great! Especially for the 1.30am barking!
