Boss likes Andrew Tate

My boss brought up Andrew Tate the other day, saying he has some valid points etc. I immediately challenged this and said he's a vile man who is an open misogynist who has said outrageous things and women who get raped etc. My boss poo pooed this, saying it was lies, taken out of context, blah blah. I am an outspoken feminist, which is frequently brought up in derogatory comments. I'm getting fairly sick of it tbh, and looking for other work but I want to know where I stand legally. I want to put my boss in his place before I leave, surely this is unacceptable and against equality legislation to espouse these views in the workplace?

What exactly would be covered by "equality legislation to espouse these views in the workplace?"

Sex as a protected characteristic? Tate is an open misogynist. The industry I work in has a policy of not allowing extremist language or views. Tate is an extremist.

I certainly be making a mental note of his views, and any sexism or misogyny shown or discriminatory behaviour in writing for a formal complaint to HR.

I'd be looking for another job.

@Ihavesomeballs : “My boss poo pooed this, saying it was lies, taken out of context, blah blah.”

To be fair he’s more likely to have seen the original in context material.

At least you know who you're dealing with.

I know a man who thinks AT is great and also believes the holocaust never happened and is made-up propaganda.

Yep. They walk among us.

ComtesseDeSpair · 17/07/2025 12:52

I don’t think anybody ever changed their views on anything because somebody tried to “put them in their place” - so if your aim is to change minds, you’re on a hiding to nothing.

Somebody saying Andrew Tate makes some valid points isn’t going to be covered by any equality legislation. If your boss is making statements himself about rape being okay or whatever, or expressing discriminatory views towards colleagues then you can take that to HR.

First off AT has some valid points everybody can make valid points. Your boss can agree with them the same way someone believes in a god.

Once your boss is not discrimination or sexually harrassing or creating a hostile work place you have no cause foe action.

But if you want to have a conversation about transactional sexual relationships and profiting on the sale on bodies .......💅

AT admits to having had sex with women and then getting them to engage in prostitution (selling sex acts)
He is prostituting his own body as part of the contract buyin deal.
All so he can profit from the women engaging in prostitution .
And we call the men (or women) who engage in that activity pimps.

Prostitution is itself legal in the UK selling others is not.

But by expressing such views (which are extreme by anyone's standards), he is creating a hostile working environment. He is my boss, he has power over me. I suspect he is saying it to attempt to put me in my place as he views me as a outspoken feminist.

It would surely depend upon what your boss actually said. If he said “Andrew Tate has some valid points” that’s not going to give him legal issues but if he said (and I don’t actually know if this is a thing Andrew Tate has said, so don’t flame me, I’m very disinterested in what he says so haven’t listened) “women are all stupid and there’s no way I’d promote a woman over a man” or something then obviously that could have legal ramifications. So it depends upon what he actually said, not what you take his words in support of some things Andrew Tate might say to imply.

HelloMyNameIsElderSmurf · 17/07/2025 20:20

You’re doing it wrong lass, the only answer to ‘Andrew Tate has some valid points’ is to bat your eyelashes, do a head tilt, say ‘does he really Brian? Could you name three of them please? I’d love to understand a little bit more.’ Then nail his arse to the wall with HR with whatever misogynistic claptrap he then comes out with. You need him to dig into it.

Both ot you should leave politics at home and only bring your professional self to work
