AIBU to get a new Bugaboo when I have a perfectly serviceable Britax travel system?

My dear MIL has offered to buy us a new Bugaboo (Gecko or Cameleon) for baby due in 3 months time. This is my dream pram and it's such a generous offer, but I don't know whether to accept or not as we have a 5 year old Britax Travel System from first baby, it was only used for 3 months, so is immaculate and to be honest it doesn't even look particularly dated. The bugaboo will cost about £700 with car seat and I feel really quite guilty about accepting cos strictly speaking it is unnecessary. I am, however, yearning for a Bugaboo. Or would we just be better off using the original travel system and just getting a new Maclaren from the MIL for when baby is a few months old? What would you do? Would the longing for a Bugaboo win over the guilt of accepting?

YABU!!!!!!!

There are better prams out there! My bugaboo carry cot only fitted DD for 10 weeks!! and after a year she was uncomfortable in the seat which is really really small and i used my maclaren chavalong buggy ever since. So they look good and are a dream to fold down, but thats where it ends. My mother brought mine for us too, but i wish i'd gone for something else on reflection.

Oh, im selling mine by the way - only used for a year

Lovely MIL! Say "Yes please" and don't look back

lucyellensmum · 27/05/2008 14:16

oh yeah and the maxi cosi wouldnt go in our car!!! so we had a britax car seat - i dont agree with pushing babies around in car seats when they have been sat in them for ages. The pram was good for that.

I agree re second hand, although i rather wish we had gone down that route instead - £700 for a pram?? I must have been mad

I think the carrycot on my older Frog was better than the Chameleon, friends had the Chameleon and didn't get much use out of the carrycot.
Agree totally about car seats- they shouldn't be used as prams IMO.
I've got a carrycot for my Micralite, with new pushcair, for my next baby. The whole thing cost us 150 pounds!
I think 700 pounds for a pram is quite . My mum paid 500 for our frog, which I thought was an outrageous amount of money- but I didn't argue as my Dad is soo stingy I thought I'd let her get on with it.
Sold it for 350 after two babies so it did last well, buyer was very pleased with it.

YANBU I did same and am very pleased I did (and I was the one who spent the cash, as MiL had bought the original one - now handed over to friend in need) I work part time and looked at it as being a month's maternity leave pay or annual leave well spent

I could never feel any love for my Maclaren. It tips, too. But I love my Bugaboo Bee (my 9th stroller). Get a Bugaboo and enjoy it! You can eBay if you don't like it!

icooksocks · 27/07/2011 17:57

Get the Bugaboo, but you wont get a Gecko new as I don't think they sell them anymore.

4madboys · 27/07/2011 17:59

get the bugaboo, have a frog, got it when i had ds2 after having a britax travel system for ds1 that was shite.

the bugaboo frog i have is still going strong nearly 8 years later, i am using it for dd, who is baby no 5!
