I currently work a term time only job and my last day there is next week. I was paid equal over the 12 months. I work part time, as a single parent and get top up UC. I start my new job in September. I told them on my journal but haven’t received any reply.

my last pay day at current role is 28th July. I’m so worried now that I won’t have any income until first pay day at my new role, which is likely in September. Will I still receive UC during this time and will it increase due to no wages coming in or will it stop? I’ve been trying to get through to speak to them, but can’t at the moment.

When you don’t get a wage your Uc should be calculated on this.

Your amount is calculated monthly based on your income.

Because you’ve told them it should be ok but there is a bit about making yourself intentionally jobless but as you work term time only the pay dates aren’t within your control.

YesHonestly · 16/07/2025 17:01

You will still receive UC. Your assessment period is monthly, so after the see your earnings for the month they will adjust your IC accordingly.

They may contact you and expect you to search for work or attend appointments in the meantime, even though you have a job lined up.

You will still receive UC based on your wage or lack of. The month you have no wage I imagine you will be called in for an appointment to discuss looking for work.

Will you not still be due a payment in August, or receive more at end of July, if you have worked the full school year.

FacingTheWall · 16/07/2025 17:30

If it’s a school based job and you started 1st September then you should be receiving pay at the end of August, as the 12th payment.

lolli19 · 16/07/2025 18:02

I started on the 9th September and will have worked the full school year

Then you should be getting paid in August.

apparently not? Does this make sense

as you have given notice this month, your final pay will be this month and will reflect any annual leave you may be due/may owe back. We calculate your final pay by looking at what hours you have worked in total, and what you have already been paid so far and then pay the difference.

I don’t say why I will owe back, as I’ve worked the whole school year, which is what I was contracted to?

This is why most people who work school jobs resign with the 31st August as their end date!

Miley23 · 17/07/2025 15:47

With no earnings on the claim they will likely ask you to seek some work. With no earnings reported you will just receive your total UC award with obviously no deductions for earnings.

So you’ve ended your contract early and they will pay your final wage early. If you would have been owed money in August they will pay you it in July so your pay this month may be bigger than you thought

Katemax82 · 17/07/2025 17:59

From what I've gathered youre total award has 55% of your take home pay deducted. Therefore if you don't earn anything within the assessment period you will get your full award

MyLov · 17/07/2025 18:30

Not a lot you can do about now OP but you need to try to watch this moving forward and make sure you give notice ending end August. You are likely to get more pay in July than normal and then nothing in August. The effect this could have is two fold. Firstly as PPs have mentioned, you may be asked to attend interviews at the job centre and to demonstrate you are actively seeking work even though you already have a job lined up. The impact of this will vary depending on your UC assessment period dates.

But more importantly you will lose out on your August work allowance. This means that you’ll have less money than if you were paid over July and August rather than receiving it in all in one month.

So if you are going to continue on term time contracts best to resign with a leaving date at end of August rather than end of the school year.

With UC it usually works best if you try to even out your pay as much as possible.

Thanks. I didn’t know this, and my manager told me to put my last official working day on my notice.
