Why am I so sleepy in the mornings

coffeegirl73 · 15/07/2025 13:19

it used to be the odd day but now it’s nearly every day. If I sit down at the computer my eyes just want to close and I can barely keep them open. Sometimes I put my head down on my desk and have a little nap - if I’m wfh obvs can’t do that in the office! I have 2 coffees one around 9 and another around 11. But lunchtime im
usually fine. It’s so hard and I don’t know why I’m so tired and sleepy every morning now. Anyone any ideas or anyone experienced this

Do you snore?

coffeegirl73 · 15/07/2025 13:24

Yes! Quite loudly I’m told

Do you sleep ok at night? It could be sleep apnoea.

GoogolB · 15/07/2025 13:28

Try cutting down on carbs.

coffeegirl73 · 15/07/2025 13:56

Yeh I never have carbs in the morning now

Get your iron levels and b12 checked this was me last year, severely deficient in both

Jacobs4 · 15/07/2025 14:11

Sleep apnoea is a definite possibility! Go get tested. 👍🏻

Definitely! I had it and didn't realise. When they tested me I was waking up 53 times per hour during REM sleep and I had no idea. No wonder I was shattered every morning.

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 15/07/2025 14:26

If you snore, definitely get yourself checked for sleep apnoea.

But also - what's your diet like? Do you get plenty of exercise? Are you deficient in anything? Are you actually getting a decent night of sleep or just tossing and turning?

BuildbyNumbere · 15/07/2025 17:39

Impossible to answer without knowing your lifestyle. How much sleep do you get, do you exercise, what’s your diet like, are you considered over weight, have kids / work long hours etc etc

RandomMess · 15/07/2025 17:53

Could be B12 could by thyroid could be snoring

DatingDinosaur · 15/07/2025 18:02

Has it been since the hot weather?

I've felt groggy in the mornings recently because it's too hot on a night and I'm not getting enough quality sleep.

Don't get tested unless you want your driving licence taken away. Do get b12 check though and fix your snoring.

Alwaysinamood · 15/07/2025 18:50

How old are you? Is it during certain times in the cycle?
I found this happening to me when I did an online course. Staring at a computer made me so tired! Try having regular breaks, drinking plenty water and movement throughout the day. Also all the above!

RandomMess · 15/07/2025 19:08

Vitamin D deficiency too

My Mum and Uncle both have sleep apnoea and are both allowed to drive. If you use a cpap and treat the apnoea, it’s fine. It’s more dangerous to have it and not know and then drive.

That's not a reason not to get tested 😬

This is so wrong. I have been tested, licence was not taken away. I use a CPAP machine and I feel so much better. I would fight anyone who tried to take it away from me now.

I felt like this for about the first year with my third baby. I think in my case it was because he woke so often in the night I was chronically tired (as in having too little and very broken sleep for months on end). I’d feel awful until about lunchtime (literally couldn’t function or think straight) then wake up in the afternoon. So could you be chronically tired for another reason - eg sleep apnea like others have suggested?

Foxtrotbeta · 15/07/2025 19:43

Agree with the vitamin D suggestion. When I was exhausted and couldn't get out of bed it was a combination of anemia and severe vitamin D deficiency.

Fleur405 · 15/07/2025 19:46

I felt a bit like this and blood tests showed my iron and b12 levels were low.
