AIBU to think there should be a way to speed this up

My daughter has been offered her dream job but needs a medical form signed by her doctor. She submitted the request almost four weeks ago but is still waiting and has been told it could still take weeks. She will lose the job if it’s not done in a couple of weeks but she is being told there is no way to speed it up. It’s free but she’s happy to pay however has been told no. I understand GP’s are busy but she is risking losing this job offer all because of something out of her control. Am I being unreasonable to think there should be some way of speeding this up? If anyone knows of another way to get the form signed legally we’d be very grateful - we are happy to pay but it’s apparently not an option with her GP. (I know this might not be the best thread but I couldn’t find a work one)

That’s insane.

Have you spoken to the practice manager? Do that if you haven’t, and do not take no for an answer.

In tandem speak to PALS in case you need to go to a formal complaint.

GPs are very busy but it is ludicrous for this to take more than a month.

As with all things NHS, you often just have to kick up a stink.

Does this form need to involve her own GP checking her records, or could it be a check and some bloods type of thing? In which case one of the private GP services could do it.

You are right - it is totally insane. She’s spoken to the practice administrator and had no joy. Initially she was told within 31 days but when she spoke to the administrator she was told that wasn’t the case and there was no time frame. It has to be her GP but she is going to try to speak to someone in the private sector tomorrow to see if there is some other way to get it. It is so frustrating

Can she make an appointment with a private GP?

Can she make an appointment with a private GP?

She is trying to do that but it looks like that could take a while to get back. She’s contacting someone today so fingers crossed. Thank you

It’s private work. NHS work comes first. Maybe try a private gp.

Unfortunately it has to be her GP. We’ve tried private GPs as we would be happy to do this but have been told they won’t do it for insurance reasons. The job is with the police so it is another public service but obviously needs to have the forms filled by the right people.

And we totally understand patients come first but it’s not a choice we have.
