In April DD got strep, she wouldn’t take her AB’s and it went on its own.

Last month following a cold she caught off me she ended up in hospital for IV antibiotics with a nasty tonsillitis infection. Infection markers were high but DD perked up great and was back to herself

She had a temp last week at school so I picked her up early, went to GP and said looks viral. Since then she’s had a runny nose and cough. Being picky with food but eating, playing on her bike etc as normal.

For some reason I am so anxious re the tonsilitis again. Last month in hospital they said all her other bloods were normal just high infection markers.

She’s well inbetween bouts and always full of energy.

Please convince me that my long standing severe health anxiety is convincing me that something is wrong. I am so worked up about it. Is it normal for a 5 year old to keep getting tonsilitis. And if it was anything serious it would have been picked up with the bloods in A&E? I lost my dad very young and have serious PTSD and trauma which is being addressed via therapy.

As no one has responded yet hopefully this will bump you up the list.
Kids get sick sometimes and as she's eating and playing on her bike she sounds fine at the moment. It's good you are having therapy for your anxiety.
Hopefully someone will come along with more helpful advice.

Absolutely normal to be anxious given your experiences. All any of us can do is keep an eye on them and get help when they’re struggling.

DS has had strep throat and terribly infected tonsils. The gp sent us straight to the hospital as he had a 40 degree temperature. He went from inconsolable to happily playing with toys in the waiting room once they’d given him a dose of antibiotics.

He has always gotten a nasty cough when he gets a cold, like the whooping sound, and seemed to get a cold every other week for a while. This has gradually faded though and he rarely gets ill now.

All totally normal part of childhood. Some kids are more susceptible to tonsilitis /strep. I was one of those and still are. I remember getting it 4 times in one year a few years ago. Sometimes its best to take a step back and look at your child. If they are seriously ill you would know about it. She's playing and fine let that tell you all you need to know and the distract yourself so you dont overthink it and send yourself mad with worry. Kids are more resilient than we give them credit for.

I don't know the current protocol for dealing with tonsillitis as my DC are older now. It is quite common for some children to get recurrent infections then for it to clear up. I had 2 with tonsil problems around 7 years old. My eldest had tonsils removed but DC2 didn't and neither any more prone to throat infections later in life. Tonsillectomy was fairly straightforward (although getting DC to eat afterwards was stressful for a day).
