To expect to at least keep up with general inflation?

I work for a company. I consistently meet my targets. Since covid I have had yearly payrises but they have been quite small such as around 2%. I earn a salary of £29k and live in Birmingham. Inflation is above 3% atm.

AIBU to expect my employer to at least match inflation? have to keep being frugal and life is no fun

I agree but I’m guessing I’m older than you. I briefly worked as support staff in a school and they had a pay freeze because the unions were trying to negotiate… for TEN YEARS! Zero pay rises. I was there for 2 years. Previously I worked in the media which had terrible pay (unless you’re a famous presenter) and your pay is subsidised by having a cool job title that makes people jealous… cool doesn’t put food on the table.

so while I agree, you’re not alone in your experience and the flip side is that companies have to be able to afford it and their priority is profit. All you can do is vote with your feet.

Are you in a union? Do you know if these pay rises are the same for all employees? Have you raised this with your manager?
