I just read the same article- yes it's very disturbing.

ResidentPorker · 14/07/2025 08:21

Not as bad as piercing a baby’s ears but yes, very weird. Why isn’t your baby good enough as they are? Aren’t you worried about their skin and unnecessary chemicals?

InfoSecInTheCity · 14/07/2025 08:23

Im pretty sure DD did have the temporary tattoos before she was 6, the ones that you wet and stick on then they wear off after a couple of days, they were often given in party bags, mystery bags or as gifts so I wouldn’t have associated them with anything dangerous.

Other than that it’s mad putting hair dye, makeup and fake tan on babies, toddlers and young kids. A) because they really don’t need it (b) because it won’t be doing their skin any good (c) because it’s faff and clean up that surely no one needs to add to their lives

dontcomeatme · 14/07/2025 08:33

This is all highly disturbing, except the temporary tattoos 🤔 my DS is currently covered in them! As long as you know they don't have an allergy I don't see the problem. They shouldn't be compared to make up at all.

viques · 14/07/2025 08:43

I know in some Asian cultures it is customary to use kohl around baby’s eyes, I am not sure if it as a medicine / protection or a beauty aid, but this is awful! In the article they refer to one child who was exposed to hair removal products of all things as well as a list of other cosmetics. Most babies don’t even get dusted with Johnson’s baby talc after the US scares, in my day all babies smelt of Johnson’s, and that was as far as beautifying went.

I once saw a tiny baby lying in a pram with a bracelet, a necklace, earrings for pierced ears and nail polish. I remember thinking it would have been easier and cheaper to get a life sized baby doll to play with.

notedbiscuits · 14/07/2025 08:47

Parents, your children are not dolls - ie can dress them like mini adults and put make up on.

User37482 · 14/07/2025 08:50

It’s very disturbing, what idiot put acrylics on a baby. I was paranoid about basic toiletries let alone putting other stuff on her. Literally treating a baby like it’s a “thing”.

hiintrepidheroes · 14/07/2025 08:52

All these parents are telling their children by doing this is ‘you’re not good enough’ and the effect on mental health for young children is awful.

I say this as someone whose parents never let me leave the house without full make up, contact lenses (wasn’t allowed to wear glasses) etc. I now have serious MH issues and never see myself as ‘good enough’.

These people need to get dolls instead.

Doraymefarsolateado · 14/07/2025 09:05

Babies have gorgeous skin and smell delicious. Even if you weren’t worried about putting unnecessary chemicals on them why would you want to cover up the natural adorableness of a baby?

blueskydays45 · 14/07/2025 14:25

My ds had temp tattoos at around 3 I think, it came in a party bag and he wanted it on. Not sure he's had them since and is now 6. He's also had children's nail varnish at a similar age although that does wash off. And now at 6, he quite likes a spray of my perfume occasionally. He doesn't have any allergies or sensitive skin though

TheWisePlumDuck · 14/07/2025 14:27

That is horrific.

TwerkAndJerk · 14/07/2025 14:29

Urgh yes that's just grim.
