Holiday destinations/countries where they are kind to animals?

My mum was telling me how much she enjoyed a trip to Morocco but then went on to say I would probably hate it because of some of the things she saw regarding animals.

In Race Around The World, often i had to skip parts ( in the cities in India) because I really hated seeing how some of the animals are living.

I know mistreatment of animals happens everywhere but I do feel like in the UK we have a pretty good standard of care for animals and you arent going to be confronted by unpleasant sights when you travel around. I feel like Im quite limited in where I can go to avoid seeing stuff I would find upsetting.

Are there any countries you have been to (especially outside Europe, although I know even in Europe you get some sketchy stuff) where you DIDNT see animals living in poor conditions/being (ab)used etc?

One last thing: could you please not give overly specific examples of things you have seen as I find it really upsetting/difficult to unpicture.

Thank you!

Based on my own experience you’d be pretty safe on ski trips, Austria, French alps and Switzerland I’ve only ever seen well cared for beautiful dogs.

Malta was another place where I only saw pets, not many stays or other animals.

I would give Asia a steer, having lived in Singapore and travelled Thailand and Malaysia.

I loved istanbul, the locals feed the street cats and dogs and there is a service that ensures they are medically looked after. Our local guide joked that the pet ambulance would get to an injured cat or dog way faster than an ambulance to a human. There are little huts set up for them to sleep in and in parks if you sit on a bench within minutes a cat will come for a cuddle. I spent an awful lot of time with random cats sat on my lap purring. ( the cats not me ) ❤️

I'd heard this about Türkiye. It is on my bucket list.

One of my friends has been to Japan a couple of times. They have an entire island for cats.

Also in Japan there is a station (Kishi) with two cats as station master.

He's been to a place where the deer will bow to you.

I loved all the cats in Istanbul.

Muslim countries have a special affinity for felines after the Prophet Mohammed said something along the lines of "I'd rather cut off the sleeve of my robe than disturb my sleeping cat' or so I was told in Istanbul.

I thought that people in Malta shoot migrating birds?

The animals is Austria always look very well looked after. I'm sure there are the same farming issues as we have here, but you don't see it walking around. The cows etc. you see in the fields have loads of space and look very well looked after.

Iceland is ok, although do steer clear of any trips to a farm/dairy.

I 2nd Istanbul. There were cats everywhere and they had road signs up saying cats crossing. Cats were fed by all the cafes and restaurants, while homeless people were looking through bin bags….

I went to Turkey last year and my daughter and I were delighted that the resort had loads of cats! They fed them and provided shelter. They were so cute and looked very healthy.

Surely the best place for animals, would be the

ones living free with very little human interaction !

I have seen some incredible scenes scuba diving in exotic destinations, the under water world is incredible for animals & plants & relatively unspoilt.

I was also taught, touch nothing under water & leave no trace.

Vancouver is definitely a dog lovers city. All clean and healthy when I visited .Saw more dogs than children/ toddlers!

DD is a HUGE animal lover and will probably die by petting something she shouldn't and she raved about how well the cats in Turkey were treated by hotels, restaurants etc when she went with her BF last year

Introduced rats, cats, dogs, humans, hedgehogs ate the native bird life in New Zealand & other islands including in the UK

Be careful what you wish for

Humans have been altering the natural balance for a while
