At what age is it deemed ok to stop giving great grandchildren money when they ask for it.

Whenever you like.

Catcatcat111 · 12/07/2025 22:17

I wouldn’t expect you to give your great grandchildren regular pocket money?

Isittimeformynapyet · 12/07/2025 22:17

You were never obliged to give them money just because they asked for it.

I wouldn’t expect my granny to give my children pocket money at all! She’s a nightmare for buying them sweets and crisps though!

ooooohlala · 12/07/2025 22:18

I’d hope that my DC aren’t rude enough to ask!

foreverand · 12/07/2025 22:25

It’s always been okay to not give great children money when they ask for it

ninjahamster · 12/07/2025 22:27

My grandmother never gave my children money, and nor should she have done.

alexalisten · 12/07/2025 22:32

How old are they as thats how many years ago I would of stopped giving them money.

outerspacepotato · 12/07/2025 22:36

They're unreasonable to ask you unless you have a money tree growing somewhere.

Now if you put them to work doing heavy chores like mowing or fixing a wall or weeding, then I'd give them some money.

macshoto · 12/07/2025 23:21

I wouldn’t be giving any (great) grandchild pocket money if they asked for it.

Was always nice to receive something from a (great) grandparent, but would have never had the temerity to ask for something (outside birthdays and Christmas).

Topseyt123 · 12/07/2025 23:27

There has never been any obligation on you to give your great grandchild money at all, surely! It's a choice you have made and hopefully not been railroaded into.

So as someone else has said, whenever you like.

Namechangetry · 12/07/2025 23:32

My great Grandma still gave my mum pocket money when she had a job a mortgage and 3 kids. I'm sure that 5p a week made all the difference.

So the answer is never, you can never stop doing the totally voluntary thing you're choosing to do of your own free will. You're signed up for life (my mum was 40 when great Grandma died so think on).
