To go to the walk in centre with a (probably) sprained ankle

I fell before quite heavily after going over on my ankle. It’s swelled up and looks like I’m going to get a corker of a bruise. It’s painful but I’m fairly sure it’s a sprain, however my friend is concerned that it’s fractured and I should go to the walk in and get it checked out. I’m not sure and think maybe I’m just being a wimp. Would I be U to go and get it x-rayed?

I was in a similar situation. Thought it was a sprain and it turned out i had a very small fracture. After a week it didn't feel better so I popped into minor injuries. Was all sorted pretty quickly.

This idea that you can't walk/weightbare on a break is so annoying. As loads of people have posted it is possible, my sister fell down some stairs, ankle ballooned and she went to urgent care. They said x-rayed said it looked fine 'and you are able to walk on it's and probably just bruised. She then went on her work trip and was walking round in Milan when she got a phone call from the hospital to say actually on review of the x-ray it was broken and could she come in that afternoon.

You can't tell the difference between a break and a bad sprain without an x-ray.

Soft tissue injuries can take longer to heal than a break.

Hope you're soon sorted and it's not too long a wait.

X Ray clear thankfully and the staff have all been lovely and efficient! Love the NHS 🙂

Absolutely! Injuries like this are exactly what walk in centres are for.

Not ours! There’s no X-ray machine, so if it was a suspected fracture, they’d send you up to A&E. Maybe some places have better equipped walk-in centres?

Can I go to a walk-in centre with sprained ankle?
No! As you can’t walk.
You need a hop-in centre.

Last time this happened to me it was just a sprain but I still needed to wear a moon boot for two weeks and had 8 weeks of physio. I was expecting to be sent straight home to self manage. Definitely think you are in the right place.
