Is this an ok reason to go to a&e?

Hope it’s okay to post here, just looking for some advice!

I’ve got a history of arrhythmias, but things have been stable since my ablations and I’m on long-term meds. Over the past 24 hours though, my heart’s felt strange, not fast, not irregular, just a bit funny? It doesn’t feel like my usual arrhythmia episodes. No pain or palpitations, just a weird feeling I can’t describe. I’m not even sure it’s my heartbeat that feels funny tbh but I think it is?

I tried my Watch ECG app which gets read by a physician (dont usually use it because my heart is controlled now, and I don’t totally trust it for accuracy anyway!). One reading came back as Wenckebach, another possible intermittent 2:1 block or possibly intermittent complete AV block, and one said severe sinus arrhythmia, but results were inconsistent and poor quality so really not reliable at all. My heart rate’s been between 37–90, so still in my normal range as it’s usually 40-90

I know sinus arythmia isn’t harmful at all, and neither is wenckebach, I’ve been told before I alternate in and out of it but it doesn’t cause issues nor need treatment

Tbh I’m wondering if it’s just stress or the hot weather, but I’m just a bit unsure. I usually go to A&E if it’s clearly palpatations or pain, but this is so vague, and I don’t want to turn up just saying ‘something feels wrong but I can’t even explain how.’ My cardiologist takes a few days to reply especially as it’s Friday afternoon, GP appointments today are all gone, 111 just advise a&e for heart stuff anyway

I don’t want to go to a&e and add to their busyness for something so vague when I can’t even pin point what symptoms I’m even getting, and then it will probably just turn out to be tiredness or nothing at all, something just feels wrong with it but I don’t know in what way. Would be ok to go to a&e for my own reassurance to get checked, or would it be more appropriate to wait a bit longer and see if the feeling passes?

thank you x

Meant to add, I think because of my history it’s clouded my judgement of when it’s ok to go to a&e or not because I’m so used to only ever going when I know for a fact my heart is in arythmia, so this is totally unknown for me!

Go to A&E. You’re not sure and you think your symptoms are cardiac related. They’ll do a 12 lead ECG which is much more accurate than your watch. You can’t be too careful with your heart, OP! Good luck x

Catsinaflat · 11/07/2025 15:11

Well if you phone 111 and they tell you to go to A+E you aren’t wasting their time! Don’t mess with your heart x

Needspaceforlego · 11/07/2025 15:11

I wouldn't think it would be unreasonable to go and get them to check it.
You know your own body and you know it's not 'normal'.
Just the same as I'd tell anyone don't mess around when it comes to heart and lung stuff.

BishBashBoomer · 11/07/2025 15:13

Go.

verycloakanddaggers · 11/07/2025 15:13

You should either phone 111 and go to A&E when tell you to, or alternatively just go to A&E.

Northerngirl821 · 11/07/2025 15:14

111 might be able to arrange an out of hours GP appointment if you aren’t having chest pain or shortness of breath, it’s worth trying.

FluffPiece · 11/07/2025 15:14

Yes, that’s an A&E one with your medical history. Something feeling wrong or an unexplained feeling of impending doom can be one of the first presentations for heart issues in women.

TwinTantrums · 11/07/2025 15:15

Go to a&e. Even atrial fibrillation, although not fatal, is an emergency.

whatcanthematterbe81 · 11/07/2025 15:15

Defo go. I have similar issues and they will never ever say you’re wasting their time, even if everything is ok

medianewbie · 11/07/2025 15:19

Go to A&E.
Took ds last year on a 'not sure'. He was in heart failure.
Went myself last Fri after chest pain & was cleared Due to see GP next day: sent me back & I have Pericarditis (plus Hyperlipidimia & Hypertension)
Go. Much worse for both you & NHS if you leave it and it IS 'something'.
Good luck x

FluffyRabbitGal · 11/07/2025 15:20

I would be inclined to go to ED & get checked out given your history. If you’re on rate limiting drugs I’d definitely be concerned about you intermittently going in & out of a second degree AV block.

reversegear · 11/07/2025 15:21

At least you can get an ECG and be rest assured.

user1471556818 · 11/07/2025 15:23

Go to ae especially due to your history. Women have very weird cardiac presentation not the crushing chest pain etc .Better to be safe

JDM625 · 11/07/2025 15:24

I used to work in A&E and have a very high threshold for advising people to go, but I would given your history.

Not saying its a heart attack, but females (if you are a female?) often present with vague and very different symptoms to the ones you see on TV adverts. Women don't always get the tightness around the chest or pain down the arms, so often don't take symptoms seriously.

A&E can do an ECG and check your bloods. Hopefully all is well.

Murdoch1949 · 11/07/2025 17:16

Have you got a Walk-in Centre?

FeministUnderTheCatriarchy · 11/07/2025 17:19

Honestly, I would go. I was also terrified of being a time waster and I almost died from delaying. I think women ignore and gaslight ourselves because we don't want to be a bother and it's actually quite dangerous.

If you feel somethinf isn't quite right, then with your history I would go straight to A&E and f*ck what anyone thinks.

munchingmunch · 11/07/2025 17:22

Go, toy feeling something is off is enough reason.

MsNevermore · 11/07/2025 17:24

Absolutely.
”Accident & Emergency”……I’d say with your history, any weirdness with your heart constitutes as an emergency.

stichguru · 11/07/2025 17:25

With heart stuff, feeling something is off is plenty reason to go to A&E!

ninjahamster · 11/07/2025 17:26

Have you gone? I think you should as you cannot mess around with potential heart issues.

DropZone5PleaseBen · 11/07/2025 17:29

As a fellow arrhythmia / cardiac patient, please go OP

my 'not sure' turned out to be prolonged QT which nearly killed me.

PopThatBench · 11/07/2025 17:32

Go. I was honestly expecting to read something like “I’ve coughed twice today” but given your history and your gut instinct trying to tell you something, just go.
You can never be too careful with your heart.

Ragruggers · 11/07/2025 17:33

Ring 111 and I am sure they will tell you go to ED that way they will know you are coming and you should be seen very quickly for an ECG and bloods. That was my experience if all is well you can go home..Pack a bag incase of admission ,take water , medication’ and a snack, phone charger.Dont guess what is wrong listen to your body.Good luck

BeautifulSongsofLove · 11/07/2025 17:35

Murdoch1949 · 11/07/2025 17:16

Have you got a Walk-in Centre?

No, it's not appropriate for people who should be been seen in an A&E to go to a walk-in centre
